Lila's P.O.V

Mum and dad have been in the kitchen for over two hours. What taking them so long. I my head onto the door to listen in. I can hear muffled people speaking.

"is she dangerous?"

"no of course not."

"can we trust her."

"of course."

"why did she come here."

"she finds it safe."

"why didn't we know about her past until now"

"fury didn't think it was for the best."

"has she done this before?"

"yes."

"when."

I can hear my dad trying to defend her, but he sounds exhausted or unsure. Why don't they trust her? Bea can't even hurt a fly. I hear coughing from upstairs and follow the noise. Oh, shit is Nathaniel up?

I get to the top of the landing, but the is coughing isn't from Nathaniel's room it's from Bea's. I creep towards the door avoiding the creaking floorboards. Turning into the bedroom I find Bea's room still filled with all her plants and Koda lying on top of her. A man all in black with an eye patch sits next to her his back facing me. He is holding her hand.

I walk around the bed to the other side. He lifts his head.

"sorry."

"no, it's ok Lila."

"you know my name."

"I work with your father."

"and Bea?"

"well Bea and I's relationship is complicated." I nod but not really understanding.

"is she awake?"

"no." He looks sadly at her.

"your him."

"who?"

"you're her nick."

"her nick?"

"you're the one who protects her from her darkness."

"her darkness?"

"she says she can feel a darkness in her when she is away from nature to long and near the city."

"she told you that."

"even though we are not related she is like my sister, we tell each other everything." he smiles at that. "Can I sit?"

"yes of course I was just leaving."

"no, you shouldn't she will want to see your face." I say with a small smile. He comes back over. He does not sit down. He does not show any emotion.

"what else does she say about me."

"she says that you're the strongest person that she has met, and you are the only person that can protect her from herself."

"herself. She said that?"

"no but I can pick it up she hates using her powers too much-

"Lila." I get cut off by Bea's voice. She coughs again. "spilling all my secrets, are you?" she says with a smile. I hug her tightly. "Nick."

"Bea. You scared us, me." Nick says. She smiles lightly and I see her take his hand and squeeze it.

"she sits up and if magically she becomes healthy. She is no longer pale and looks dead now she looks like she has just woken up from a dream.

"Lila thank you for helping me out of my transformation. I told you it would help." She says as she indicates towards the crystal hanging around my neck. "what time is it?"

"its 9pm." I reply.

"you should head to your room I can tell that you are not supposed to be up." I nod my head and go to my room.
