This is the first thing you should know about your story. The Clans. You also need a name, but we'll get to that later.
Now, grab a piece of paper or a pen (or whatever) and write details about these questions.
1) What is the main landscape type for your Clan?
e.g: Hills
2) What prey is there?
e.g: Mouse
3) What is a special trait about the territory?
e.g: A large dip in the ground made by twolegs
4) Where is the Clan camp located?
e.g: In a gorge
5) How is the camp protected/hidden?
e.g: A thorn barrier
6) What is the main animal threat in your territory?
e.g: Foxes
7) Are there twolegs nearby that may cause trouble?
e.g: No, just an abandoned farmhouse
8) What special kind of plants/trees are there?
e.g: Birch trees
9) How are the dens constructed?
e.g: Hollow trees
10) Do they have a training clearing?
e.g: Yes, with trees ideal for practicing

Also, make sure you make it realistic! I'm going to use my terrible Clan called PerfClan to give you an example-
1) A lake with fresh ever lasting water.
2) Plump fish!
3) Flawlessstar can change the temperature of the water! And it's unique because no other Clan has the guts to swim.
4) Underwater; PerfClan cats have waterproof pelts and can breathe underwater!
5) By a water tornado that can be activated and stopped by all PerfClan cats.
6) There are sometimes great white sharks (notice the flaw?). But pfffft... they're no trouble at all! PerfClan cats can take them down single pawed!
7) There is a town nearby... filled with twolegs with guns! But we outwit them easily.
8) There is glowing seaweed that can be used as any herb so we never run out.
9) They are comfy rocks underwater with sift seaweed beds
10) Yes, and it's huge, but our apprentice don't need a lot of practice because we're all naturally good at everything.

Do you see? ;)

And... now for the names. [Next chapter]
