Don't tell me creating cats isn't the best part of writing a story! ;)
The basics are:
- Kit names end in 'kit' until they are apprentices at 6 moons. (e.g: Mintkit)
- Apprentice names end with 'paw' after they are made an apprentice at 6 moons. (e.g: Mintpaw)
- Warrior names are either a body part (e.g: Mintpelt), or natural source (e.g: Mintblossom).
- Leader names end with 'star' after they receive their 9 lives.
So now- more basic stuff/rules:
1) Make sure you base the cats name on his or her appearance. We don't want a bright ginger, kind hearted she-cat called Darkclaw do we?
2) Don't name your cats something they don't know about. I've seen things like Hammerclaw (Tigerstar's original name), Streetpath, Brickfang, Glassblade, Metalshine, Matchflame, Peanutfur or Dragonblaze. Which brings me next rule...
3) Warrior cats don't know about mythical creatures. Unless you're steering in a different direction from the Erin Hunter Warriors base, try to avoid naming your cats like Dragonfang, Pegasuswing, Unicornshimmer, Trollclaw, Fairywish or Elfstreak etc! XD
4) Make sure the prefix and the suffix make sense together. Brightshadow... wut now? Fiercewhimper (although I don't think 'whimper' is a popular suffix) doesn't make sense either. Neither does Greensky. So watch out for those.
Now that you've covered the basics, go and get creating! For name creators if you're stuck, check out my book Warrior Cat Name Generator!
