You woke up to the sound of your phone alarm going off, and the chirping of the birds outside in the early morning.
Unfortunately you were groggy and tired from your slight lack of sleep, but work was something that you looked forward to and enjoyed nevertheless, even if it was an earlier start than you were used to. Slipping out of bed, you washed up in the bathroom, happy to find it empty -probably due to the early time in the day-.
Pulling some weather appropriate clothes on and tying your apron on as well as your hair up, you felt a little more elated than you had been a short while ago.
You definitely didn't want to see either Ryan or Piero today.
You just wanted everything to go away.
The night scene seemed like a completely different world to the morning where everything was so much clearer and less dramatic.
Leaving your room, you remembered to leave your door open for Ryan, when he wanted to come out. It was an act of pure kindness, since what you really wanted to do was lock him in and out of your sight forever.
Urgh, if only he had been able to keep him hands to himself and not tried anything with you on the sunbeds, you wouldn't be in the awkward situation with Piero and him.
As you walked down the stairs in thought, an image of Ryan hovering over you, face close, a dark look and a small smirk playing on his lips floated in uninvited, making your steps down the stairs slower and more dreamy. His chain hanging over you, his body pressed against yours and him holding you down forcefully, you enjoying every second of it and wanting him to be rougher, to make you do whatever he wants with you...
You stepped down from the last step of the stairs, and the fantasy was wafted away by reality.
No.
You didn't want to think about that.
Walking into the kitchen, you grabbed a piece of bread and some olives from the jar, since you were still starving since the bike ride, and the events of last night had unquestionably burned a few calories.Elena and Giuseppe were still asleep, as they usually were when you went off to work, since it was 5 in the morning, and you helped open up the market stall with Gianna.
When you first met her, you knew her name sounded familiar. It did take you a good week to realise that she was the red underwear lady that you had talked about with Giuseppe, Piero and Elena at dinner in your first week. Obviously you hadn't dared bring it up with her, or ask her the reason for the underwear rumours. You didn't want to be on her bad side, since despite being overly kind most of the time, she did tend to have sudden switches of character that made you freeze is surprise from time to time.
There had been a time when she had screamed at nothing in particular about how an orange had been going mouldy in the bottom corner of one of the fruit crates, and had caused a few other oranges around it to go off as well.
"Sto perdendo soldi per queste cose stupide (I'm losing money on these stupid things)!" She shouted, kicking the box with her tiny foot.As soon as you finished eating the olives and bread, you grabbed your bag and headed out of the house. The morning breeze and the smell of freshness exhilarating your mood, you made your way to the market.

"Ciao Elena." Chirping, you gleefully skipped up the elderly lady that was sitting in study on a small arm chair, and gave her a kiss on her cheek. Your apron was already off and hanging limply in your hand, as you had taken it off as soon as you dumped the last box of fruit in the back of Gianna's van, ready to be taken out again tomorrow.
"Qualcuno e di buon umore (Someone's in a good mood)." Elena laughed, taking off her reading glasses, and putting the book that she had been holding aside. It was early afternoon and the curtains were drawn in the room to block out the blazing warmth from the sun.
"I am, work was amazing," Beaming, you propped yourself again the piano that was next to Elena's armchair, and rested you head in your arms against it. "I love hearing about everything people have to tell me."
Shaking her head but still smiling lovingly, Elena sighed.
"Some people can't keep their mouths closed in this town, honestly. I know more about the business of the neighbours than my own." Jokingly, she rolled her eyes.
Something told you that it was going to take you a long while to get bored of hearing all the interesting stories and the drama going on in the small community.
