~Charlotte~
“Bye, Warren!” I waved for one last time. I was gonna miss this place, even if I had been here for only a few hours. Josh and I walked to the gate. “You have got to bring me back here,” I told him. “Haha, sure! I’ll tell him to reserve you a bunch of nachos.” Yes, I loved Warren’s nachos. They were a lot better than the ones at the hotel.
“Thanks Josh.” I blurted.
“For what?” “For bringing me here. For, giving me company.” I explained. He gave a small smile, “You’re welcome, Charlotte. It was nice having you as a sidekick.” A sidekick? What were we? Superheroes? “Are you serious?” “What?” He asked. “I’m only a sidekick, to you?” “Be flattered.” He smirked.
“That I’m a sidekick? I am not. I am disappointed.” I crossed my arms. “Why?” “Because, unlike any other superhero’s sidekick, you’re a special one. You’re mine.” He explained.
What was that supposed to mean?
We reached outside the gate. I was about to hail for a cab, when he stopped me. “No, we’re walking.” “Are you out of your mind? The hotel is a lot farther than it looks.” “Well, we’re not headed there yet. Remember, I have a surprise for you?”
Right, he had this surprise for me. More like a punk.
“Ugh, how far is it?” I complained. “It’s near, just a few blocks. Come on, sidekick, follow.” “I am your sidekick, not your peasant.”
“Isn’t that the same thing?” “Let’s just walk.”
~
He lied. It wasn’t just a few blocks; it was more like 2 miles (with a lonely general store). “You liar, we’ve been walking for more than 30 minutes, where the hell is that surprise of yours?” I complained. “We-“ “And don’t you dare say, ‘We’re almost there, just a little more.’” “What do you want me to say then? ‘Oh. Charlotte, leap some more, oh dear.’ Want some drama?” He said, with some dumb Russian accent.
“No, I want some nachos and water.” I replied.
We walked some more, and I decided to ask him something. “Does Warren really live in there?” “Yup, he barely gets out. He only goes out if he needed something, like food or water.” “What about clothes?” “I send him.” “Wow, why though?” “You really wanna know?” “If it’s shorter than this surprise of yours, I don’t see why not.” “Okay, sure...” He started.
“Before, he used to be a local singer. He was really known in here. He kept doing shows in coffee shops, the Town Mall, and even the town’s music centre.” “Where is it?” “I’ll tell you later on.” “Okay? Go on.” “In one of his shows, he caught his eye on someone.” “Let me guess, a girl?” “No, a desperate gay guy.” He sarcastically replied.
I laughed. “He saw a girl. She worked at the Town Mall, and well, he fell for her. He went absolutely out of his mind for her. She on the other hand, hated him. She tried avoiding him, but he would always see her. Soon, he was about to give up. But not until he got a big idea.” We took a left.
“He decided to build her something. It was something that would surely get her to finally be with him. It was a small, private and amazing place. Any guesses?” “A personal Disneyland?” “No! His now, so-called, ‘home sweet home’.” “He built it for her?” I asked, shocked.
