Lockdown
-
As the world turned the brakes on,

Our livelihoods unable to run.

Suffocated by a pandemic,

A new history had begun.

The streets lost their life,

Blinded only by the shutters.

Tape marked the grounds,

Deafened by distant mutters.

Human connection became absent,

As families were torn apart.

Thousands of lives stolen,

Suffering not only from a virus, but a grieving heart.

As a nation we came together,

Instilling such unity and strength.

Our key workers shone such bravery,

As they went to every length.

Our NHS worked tirelessly,

Masks marked their faces.

Risking their lives to save ours,

As we appreciated their graces.

Each Thursday a minute was dedicated,

To clap for all our key workers.

Our GP’s, pharmacists, Royal Mail, carers, school staff, retail and warehouse staff to name a few,

We honoured each of them as 8pm drew.

White boards remained white,

As parents became our teachers.

Playgrounds lost their soul,

Filled only with the sound of creatures.

Children’s imagination created only in homes,

The love of family time found their lost souls.

The nature of outside became their inside,

As rainbow covered windows filled the holes.

Our society healed,

As we adopted a new way of life.

Our lives found their meaning,

As our spirits became alive.
