Molly Weasley was ecstatic. Though she dearly loved all of her sons, she had always longed for a daughter. And now her prayers had been answered; she had been blessed with not one daughter but two. Her twin daughters. She knew that these two would make them poorer still but she could care less as she held her two ginger-haired bundles of joy and hope. In the corner of her eye a tear of wonderment glistened, reflecting her delight, and trickled down her full cheek. Raising her head to the ceiling as she lay in her hospital bed with her adoring husband at her bedside and her dear family separated only by a wall, she prayed the future would be bright.
Smiling and glad for having a reason to finally do so, Remus looked fondly at the scruffily-written-in-excitement letter containing the Weasleys' news. Then his smile faded as he thought over his own situation once more. All the options were less than ideal. Sirius, his once beloved friend had recently been taken to Azkaban- Remus shuddered at the thought of the God-forsaken place- leaving his daughter behind in the hands of his child's grandmother. However, and typically so, tragedy struck even more recently leaving the child's grandmother dead.
Remus as the girl's appointed godfather (he and his old friends James and Sirius had discussed this when Lily had become pregnant; James' child was to be Sirius' god-child, Sirius' child was to be Remus' god-child and should he ever settle down and have a child, then James would be the god-father) was supposed to help decide what was to happen next to the girl. Dumbledore had personally visited him to encourage Remus to take in the girl himself, which meant a lot, but Remus had little confidence in himself. Looking over his shabby living room his sad gaze lingered on a small, dusted golden frame containing a precious picture. It was from the last Christmas, to the left was James and his son Harry, in the middle was Remus himself and to the right was Sirius and his beautiful, charming daughter. Each of the subjects were grinning and then laughing hysterically. Remus stared at the tiny figure perched joyously on her father's lap so carefree with no worries for what the future would bring, never expecting the life in front of her and he asked himself whether he truly thought or believed it a good idea to send her off to live among strangers who would hate her once they learned her name. The other options were standing by to watch her be claimed by the Malfoys, or, 'No.' he thought a new protective feeling washing over him making his spine stiffen and the animal that emerged on the full moon howl inside him 'No, not my god-daughter.' Contemplating this Remus began to wonder 'What about my furry little problem!' his thoughts became erratic in his panic though he calmed when he remembered Dumbledore. He knew Dumbledore would fight alongside him so that they could live together, so he could raise her. It would be best for the girl and besides there were many ways around his 'furry little problem' (the corner of his mouth lifted in memory of his old friend) he would do anything to protect the girl he already cherished and adored like a daughter, a pup, howled the wolf within.
