After the almost fatal incident, Hermione became friends with the boys and that was also when As started to drift apart from them. She had mentioned it to Hermione in the toilets, she didn't much like Hermione and she found spending time around her made her unusually bad-tempered. Instead, she began to spend more time with the Slytherins or the prankster trio.
It was a few days after Halloween, when sitting near Harry and the others Professor Snape walked past with a cut on his leg that caused him to limp. As frowned, concerned for one of her favourite professors but Harry let out a maddening gasp. Harry explained his ludicrous theory about it being Snape who let the troll in. He added that whatever Hagrid collected from vault 713 must have been guarded by the three-headed dog and that Snape must be trying to steal it, earning the cut when trying to get past the dog.
As scoffed and immediately defended Snape.
"Yeah, right. Just because he doesn't like Gryffindors and keeps to himself doesn't mean he's the evil mastermind behind everything. You really should stop making wild accusations!" Harry scowled at his friend, "Just because you happen to be the only Gryffindor he likes and you're always hanging around with that awful cousin of yours doesn't mean that you are right!" Harry argued in a fit of anger.
Eyes blazing with fury, As stood up. "How dare you! When it turns out to be someone else, don't be surprised. I've warned you!"
Inquisitively, several of her older Gryffindor friends looked round and glared at the three who seemed to be the cause of her anger. Before they could question her, she had left and in front of the whole hall she brazenly walked up to the Slytherin table and was comforted by Blaize Zabini's arm round her shoulder. Moving to another house table was so uncommon that it was practically an unspoken rule never to do so. However Snape looked rather smug, McGonagall looked disheartened and Lee Jordan was subconsciously glaring daggers at the arm locked around his friends shoulder.
Days later, As had still not spoken to Harry, Ron or Hermione nor had she returned to her house table. Harry and Ron felt the disappearance of her presence the most besides the older friends of hers. They were treated rather coldly and the others were clearly were supporting As. One morning, at the far end of the Gryffindor table, as they had been shunned, a parcel arrived for Harry. Looking round, Harry saw his owl, Hedwig perched on the table in front of McGonagall and knew who the sender was. Upon opening the parcel he found the latest and fasted broom yet, a Nimbus 2000. He knew it had been sent in preparation for the Gryffindor- Slytherin match. Vaguely, through his nerves he wondered which team As would be supporting and felt guilty for ruining the good friendship they had previously had. Sighing he supposed she would support her own house since she still got on with the other six members of the house team.
On the weekend, the first Quidditch match of the year was set to take place. As waited for the team so she could wish them all, besides Harry, good luck. Then she went up to the stands to find a good seat. She chose to sit with Seamus, Dean and Neville (she would have sat with Lee but he was in the commentators box). Ron and Hermione attempted to sit by her but the death glare she sent was enough to warn them away. Instead they sat beside Hagrid who had come to see Harry's first game. During the game, Harry's broom began to behave peculiarly but like her cousin, As wasn't concerned- she was even perhaps slightly hopeful he would fall and get a small injury. She heard the whispers from Ron and Hermione as they one again accused Snape of being an "Evil git!" (Ron said) and Miss-I-know-it-all-Granger announced to Ron that Snape was jinxing the broom. Irritated, As looked over to the stand where the teachers were assembled and noticed two things; one, Snape was muttering something magical and two, so was Professor Quirrel. 'Come to think of it, Professor Quirrel is a very odd character. His pathetic stuttering would be the perfect cover. His hand was covering his mouth, but like Hermione I know a spell when I see one and Quirrel was keeping direct eye contact as was Snape but Dumbledore trusts him and I'm sure it isn't him. I'm not sure how I know but I'm positive that Professor Snape is innocent."
As watched with barely held back outrage as Hermione set Professor Snape's cloak alight. Leaning forwards a bit to get a closer look, she saw Snape stand up when he was informed by a fellow professor of the flames then she saw him stand and knock into Quirrel who fell back. Conveniently after Quirrel was sabotaged or disturbed depending on whose opinion, Harry was able to get back onto his broom and the game resumed. The game finally ended when Harry almost swallowed the snitch.
A few days later, As went to visit Hagrid. She hadn't seen him apart from in passing after she stopped talking to Harry and the others. Hagrid was pleased to see her again and he told her about how the others had visited him the other day and was surprised she wasn't there.
"Yeah, we've had an argument." As informed him casually.
"Wha' no way!" Hagrid said indignantly. "They didn't sa' nothin' bout tha'." As laughed, it wasn't a happy laugh. It was harsh and sarcastic and it made Hagrid cringe.
"Well we were arguing over Snape. They're under the impression that Snape let the troll in and that he's responsible for anything that goes wrong in the school. I defended him and Harry... Well let's just say he really insulted me and I haven't spoken to them since."
"Wha' is their obsession wit' him and Fluffy? I tol' 'em to leave Snape alone but to no avail." Hagrid asked angrily.
"I'm going to take a random guess that Fluffy is a three-headed dog and that he's yours." As commented drily.
"Not you too. How'd you kno' 'bout Fluffy?" Hagrid asked bewildered.
"I was told by the others. You know, when we were on speaking terms." As replied, "Anyway, lovely as it was to see you Hagrid, and you Fang," she said looking down and patting the drooling dog on the head; soppy eyes stared back up at her before his head dropped onto his paws. "I should probably go."
"Alrigh' see you later then." Hagrid said waving at her as she departed the wooden hut and went back up to the castle.
Sighing, As gave the Fat Lady the password and the Portrait swung open and she walked into the common room. She walked passed Harry, Hermione and Ron where they were whispering. She heard the name 'Nicholas Flammel' her interest rose and she made a mental note to research him, she definitely recognised the name though.
