Chapter 6

Gabriella’s POV

I walked ahead of the two , my mind still processing the coincidence of Levi being on the same plane with us, and now here, joining our little survival group, why didn’t I noticed him getting on board with us on the plane? Guess I wouldn’t see him considering there are about 100 and more passengers around. I wondered how many of us are left here in the island? When I woke up, I saw a couple of dead bodies, mostly injured people, and who knows how many lives the explosion of the plane took?

“Gabby, are you sure we're going the right way?” the oh-so- great Levi asked. Why can’t he sense that I don’t wanna see him or talk to him? Can’t he realize that I’m avoiding him by walking ahead? I just managed to divert my thoughts from him, now here he is, invading my personal space by catching up to me. I’m still annoyed and pissed off from what he did to me in the past. I know that it was years ago and that I’m being bitter, hey, try having a relationship with your bestfriend that breaks your heart, then start talking to me.

I was about to answer his question but decided I’d only waste my time and just chose to roll my eyes. Obviously I’m taking offense in him doubting my sense of direction. As we reached the site my heart clenched at the scene infront of me. I heard Sab gasp and Levi stiffen. The huge clearing covered in black ashes, remnants of the plane scattered and broken into pieces, but what was most heart breaking were the burned bodies that you can hardly identify, you can only guess their age according to their sizes, the explosion didn’t spare the children nor the old, the bodies were either the corpses that they were able to get out of the plane or the injured that couldn’t run away from the explosion, or simply the ones that weren’t quick enough to escape.

I didn’t bother to wipe the tears that fell out of my eyes. Guilt overwhelmed me, the guilt of being happy that I was alive, I shouldn’t feel this glad that we aren’t dead in mourning for those who are but a mere human such as I could only be selfish at this predicament, I was glad I got to warn people about the explosion but also feel guilty that many still died. I hated myself for being scared, which caused me this relief and slight happiness that we are still alive. But for how long?    

“come on, we should  probably look for something useful” claimed Levi. I nodded and we spread out.

“be careful guys, don’t wander too far, shout if you see anything” I added before starting my search. I saw Sab agreeing and Levi wearing a smug look, probably thinking that I cared. I would probably punch the smug look on his face but decided that now is not the right time.

I approached the plane for a better hope that I can see something useful, nothing but burned chairs, bags that you can’t even open cos half of it are burned to ashes and other unidentified junks until I accidentally kicked a what used to be a piece of the plane which happens to be covering a very familiar shiny thing. I bent down to examine the thing then realized that it was mine. Well, It used to be mine until I gave it to him, it was a cross necklace with a classy design and an infinity sign in the middle, amazing thing was it wasn’t damaged or burned, it’s was in perfect shape, it was my grandmom’s, she said that I have to give it to someone who my heart chooses to be connected to forever, that’s why I gave it to him 4 years ago, but why is that here? Was he really here?  so it really was him that I thought I saw inside the plane, but where is he? Did he make it out alive or did he get caught in the explosion? My heart beat faster by the thought of him dead, he couldn’t be. Please no, i wouldn’t be able to take it. My body began to shake, He couldn’t---

  “Gab!” Sabrina called out breaking me from my thoughts. I quickly shoved the necklace into my pocket.

The thought of something happening to Sab made my adrenaline rushed out to her, when I caught site of her, she wasn’t alone, a couple of people were surrounding her, along with Levi.

“uhm… hey” I said awkwardly as I approached them.

“ Gab, this is Nicole and her husband Michael, and their children Annabelle and Aaron. And this is Rick and Carl, they’re brothers who happened to bump into Nicole’s family that are here to look for supplies or people too, just like we are” Sab explained. I nodded in response.

Nicole looked like is in her mid 40s and as well as her husband Michael who has a gruff look on his face like any old dad would have or then again, it could be because the quandary we’re all in. Nicole has brown hair going just above her shoulders while Michael has blonde hair. Their children are fraternal twins who look exactly alike except for the distinguish of gender. Annabelle has brown eyes as well as her brother, probably from the genetics of their father, she also has freckles scattered in her rosy cheeks while her brother has freckles on his body, I can tell because I can see those in his arms and legs as he was wearing khaki shorts. They’re both about 5’6 or more and they looked like they’re 15-16 years old. Rick and Carl are about in their early late 20’s but Rick looking a year or two older. I don’t feel good about them, yeah they’re  both good looking but something’s off about them, they don’t look other people in the eyes and Carl seems too quiet for my liking. But I’ll play along.

“hi, I’m Gabriella and this is Sabrina and Levi” I replied making eye contact to everyone of them.

“hello Gabriella, yes, we’ve met Sabrina and Levi, we were just about to ask them if you guys already went there, it should be here by now. We were just about to go there but we decided to look here for supplies first but seeing as everything is burnt, coming here is useless” Nicole said.

 I raised an eyebrow at what she said.

“go where? What are you talking about?” I asked Nicole.

“you don’t know? After most of the passengers got out of the plane, the pilot said that they were able to send a distress signal at a nearby island and they send out a rescue ship which will arrive after a day and a half, sadly the distress call didn’t make it to the main tower giving them our location.” Michael explained.

Why didn’t I know this? It must have been announce when I was still blacked out. I raised an eyebrow at Sabrina mentally asking if she knew about this, Sab shook her head indicating that she too doesn’t know. How could she not know? Wasn’t she awake when I wasn’t? I’ll ask her later.

“ okay, so where will the ship be coming?” I asked.

“the pilot said that it should be by the west side of the island where the sea is.” Nicole said.

I nodded. “alright, we should probably get going before it gets dark.” I said.       

I really hope that this will be our ticket out. I hope Kenna is already there. She must.

I'm sorry for the super late upload. i was busy doing stuff. anyway, here's chapter 6. see the necklace on the side. cute huh. and who is 'him'??? what exactly happened to Kenna and where is she???
