Chapter 4
I frantically searched for Sabrina’s pulse and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. She was just passed out. And by the looks at her head, she was hit by something that caused her to black out. Thank God it wasn’t a serious hit.
“Sab! Come on, wake up honey!” I cried as I gently shake her.
After a minute or two of forcing her to wake up, I can’t help but feel guilty for all the things that had happened to us. If we just hadn’t planned this trip, Sab wouldn’t be in this state, and Kenna wouldn’t be missing, we could all still be at one piece at home spending it like any other day instead of being here, trapped in God knows where island.
I tried to fight my tears from falling. I keep reminding myself to be strong. The only way for us to get out of here is to be strong. And I won’t cower down. This is my mistake and I’ll fix it.
“urgh, Gabby? What happened? My head hurts” Sab weeps as she tries to wake up.
“I should be the one asking you that. I found you on the ground passed out after I woke up. Looks like you’ve been hit on the head. And Kenna’s gone too.”
“huh? Uh, what?” Sab asked as she tries to process it all.
“how do you feel? do you remember anything Sab?”
“uhm, yeah, I’ll live. wait, it’s coming back to me, I remember about 30 minutes after you guys went to sleep, I heard movements in the bushed, thinking that it was probably just a rabbit or a squirrel, i ignored it and after a few minutes, there was another rattling sound so I got up and wanted to take a look, then I heard footsteps from behind but just when I was about to turn around to see who was there, I got hit in the back of my head and blacked out.” Sab explained to me.
“what is really going on Gab? I know you know something that you aren’t telling. I know you too well to tell that you’re hiding something. What do you know?” Sab pried from me.
“ Okay, I heard from the pilot that the captain was murdered. Someone killed him. They’re trying to secretly find the culprit before the explosion. But now that I think about it, I don’t think many of us survived after the plane exploded. It happened all too fast, some might not have gotten out fast enough. Not even the pilot. And we don’t even know exactly where we are.” I said to Sab.
She just remained quiet, silently sobbing. I pulled her in for a comforting hug. “ what’re we gonna do? How will we find Kenna? What’ll happen to us?” Sab asked as her sobs got louder.
I tighten my hold on her. “Sab, I’m sorry, this is all my fault, if we hadn’t planned this trip, none of this would’ve happened, I’ll fix this by getting you and Kenna home, I promise you, we can survive this.
We know how to survive in a forest, we can do this, we have to be strong.” I tried to convince her as a tear fell from my eye but I quickly brushed it away.
I refuse to cry until we get out of this island. I just pray wherever Kenna is, she’s safe.
I let Sab cry it all out till she calmed down. She has to let it all out. I told her our plan after she settle down.
“we have to regroup with the other survivors, we’ll have a bigger chance of finding where Kenna is if we ask around or have help with others. But we have to be on guard with them, we don’t know them, for all we know, they could be the killer. Let’s go, the fire from the plane is gone, we need supplies, hopefully we’ll meet up with someone there.”
Sab nodded in approval as she fixed herself, we started to walk back where we came from when Sab started a conversation.
“you know, this isn’t your fault” Sab said
“what?” I asked surprised of her statement
“this trip, and what happened to all of us. This wasn’t your fault” Sab said
I furrowed my eyebrows. I didn’t face her but I kept walking. “it is. And I think I’ll forever blame myself for this. If I hadn’t plan—“ I said but Sab cut me off
“ If WE hadn’t planned this. Don’t rule us out. We planned this together Gab. All three of us. Kenna and I were so excited that you finally grew a pair of balls to get yourself laid. So this isn’t your fault. DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF” Sab hissed at me playfully.
I smile gratefully at Sabrina. Thank God I have a friend like her. And it’s a huge relief that Sab doesn’t blame me for this, I just hope Kenna shares the same thought.
After an hour of walking, the remnants of the plane came to view, indicating that we’re near at the sight. I searched around to see if anyone is near but failed to see anyone.
Or so I thought.
“Gabriella?”
