The USS Nimitz (CVN-68) was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for joint naval exercises. As a special treat, the battleship USS Missouri (BB-63) was allowed to tag along, to serve as a 'guard' with the veterans onboard.

Each warship was refueling and restocking supplies in order to prevent mishaps, and took their time of about 2 hours for everything

When the schedule was initiated, the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Port Royal (CG-73), with 4 of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers Halsey (DDG-97), John Paul Jones (DDG-53), Hopper (DDG-70) and Chafee (DDG-90), along with a Los Angeles-class submarine, USS Columbus (SSN-771), all sailed forward with the supercarrier and the decorated battleship.
