Chapter 4: Self-care

Many people spend their time overworking themselves and taking care of others that they forget to take care of themselves.

It's good and healthy to take some time off and focus on you. Pamper yourself, spare some time to do what you love. Just take some time to breathe and relax.

I love a good self-care; that involves taking care of my body and just meditating. I take time to self-reflect and just try to relax and sleep too. Sometimes you are doing a lot for yourself when you're doing nothing. You've got to take time to reboot and just have a breather and relax.

Self-care does not only affect your physical state but also your mental state. When your mind is relaxed and clear, you are able to make decisions that are effective.

There are so many forms of self-care; but you've got to do what works for you. For me, self care includes:

· A nice warm and long bath

· Meditation

· Sleep : )

· Journaling; very therapeutic by the way

· Self-pamper

· Listening to music

· Nature walks

Etc...

Self- care includes a lot and as I keep saying, do what works for you. Take time to take care of your mental, physical and spiritual state. It's not selfish to put yourself first sometimes. Take time to focus on YOU.

Do something that is simple and manageable. You don't have to think that you need money to start taking care of yourself. Start where you are and with what you have.

What forms of self- care do you do?

Do what you love and love what you do. Sometimes people are stuck in jobs they hate because they've got bills to pay. So how about you spare some time doing what you actually love. It may be dancing, singing, painting, writing, swimming... whatever it is, just do it. You never know, it might lead to a career path or something.

Love yourself enough to give yourself a chance to explore your talents. Take time getting to know yourself and what you like. Discover things about you that you never though you could do or ever like. You've got to nourish to florish!

You also need to slow down. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to the point where functioning properly is becoming hard. I know that sometimes we just need to get things done but with proper planning and division of tasks, you can accomplish what you want. 

I used to want to finish a lot of tasks in one day and just complete everything once and for all, but I learnt that sometimes you just need to take a break and whatever it is you can't do today, you can finish it tomorrow. The world will not end because there are things you haven't completed in your day, there is still tomorrow.

There is still tomorrow.

There is still tomorrow. Another day. Another opportunity to do what you didn't do yesterday. Another chance to make things right. So don't beat yourself up too much.

There is a reason why there are chapter breaks in books. There is a reason why authors don't upload an entire book in one day for readers to read on wattpad. They take their time in uploading; a chapter at a time; bits at a time. So you should do so too in life. Take in one day at a time. Take breaks and just breathe and relax.

Love yourself enough to take good care of yourself.
