Luke

A few days later, I was at Aaron's house after school. We were studying in his kitchen, sat at the table. Something in the pit of my stomach felt bad for being here, but I knew it was innocent. Even though I knew Aaron might have had a crush on me, that's not why I came. The only reason I was doing this was to try and be a better person for myself. Perhaps I should have told Michael where I was, but he didn't care about studying or tests.

"So do you wanna go over the exam, and we can see which parts you struggled on?"

I looked up at Aaron who was opposite me.

"Yeah, sure that would be great! But I'm pretty sure it's like the entire thing."

He smiled, opening his notebook. "Then we'll do the entire thing. Are you sure I can't get you a drink?"

"Oh, no thank you. I'm okay for now."

Suddenly, a woman with large curly hair walked into the room. I assumed it was his mother.

"Oh, hello!", she exclaimed as she saw me. "Who do we have here?", her eyes widened in excitement.

I grinned.

"Hi!"

"Mom, this is Luke", Aaron said.

"Nice to meet you", I held my hand out for her to shake.

"Well aren't you a cutie pie! Nice to meet you, honey, I'm Barbara", she shook my hand. "Aaron, you should have told me your friend was coming over!"

"Mom", he blushed. "We're studying."

I smiled awkwardly.

"And he doesn't even have a drink? What would you like honey?"

I chuckled. "Actually, he offered me already."

"I'll get you a glass of water."

I watched as she walked away to fetch a glass from a cupboard.

Aaron sighed, mouthing the word "sorry", on his lips.

I smirked, shaking my head to assure him it was fine.

"Thank you", I took the drink his mother made me, placing it on the table.

"Now I'll be upstairs if you guys need anything!", she walked out of the room.

I turned back to Aaron, an honest smile on my face.

"She's really nice."

Aaron chuckled, clearly embarrassed. "Yeah, she's sort of always like that when I have friends over. Believes I'm forcing them to die of thirst."

I giggled. "I get it. My mom's the same."

"It's in their DNA right?"

"Oh definitely."

He grinned. "You ready to start?"

"Sure, let's do it."

Just as we were about to start working, suddenly the TV in the living room made a loud noise.

"Jake, you moron! That was my last life!"

It sounded like a boy playing a video game. Aaron widened his eyes and stood up immediately.

"Sorry, I think my brother's home, and he's on his PlayStation, excuse me."

"Oh, of course."

I turned my head, watching as he walked out, and approached a boy that looked about thirteen in his living room.
