To all of my incredible readers,
First of all, thank you. If you've took time out of your lives to read Same Time, then thank you. I hope it didn't disappoint you.
Jaimee and Shayden's story was one of many that I've written about but I do think, no matter where my writing takes me, I'll always hold a special place in my heart for them. Sexual assault, grief, love and recovery are so important. Finding your own self worth and confidence and having the courage to face each day despite any complications you may face is so important.
To all survivors out there,
No matter what your story is, you are valid. Your story is important and your trauma is important. No matter if you think 'someone may have it worse', no matter if someone tries to dismiss your pain- You are valid, you are strong and I am so, so proud of you.
Rape, abuse, harrassment and assault is never the survivors fault.
You have the right to drink. You have the right to walk down a street. You have the right to go to a party. You have the right to dress however the fuck you wanted. You have the right to trust him or her or them. You have the right to make your own decisions. You have the right to say no. You have the right to say yes and then change your mind. You have the right to consent. You have the right to choice.
You have the right to live.
No one has the right to perpetrate abuse towards another person. No one has the right to assault you, to harass you, to abuse you, to rape you. No one has the right to violate you.
It is never your fault.
Every single person in this world has a story, has lived through things that nobody knows anything about.
Talk to your partners. Talk to your parents, or your siblings, or your friends.
Don't force yourself to suffer alone. Jaimee pushed her family away: Her boyfriend, her friends, her brother. It just led to more pain, a prolonged recovery.
It's okay to not be okay.
There is nothing wrong with asking for help.
There is nothing wrong with being human.
