Chapter 7: New Chances

Blue's view:

I woke up and Pappy was gone. Figures. I slide off of the couch and stretch. My spine is popping more than normal today. I shake my head and the crack rattles. Is it... bigger? I wrap it in some spare bandages and head up to the bathroom. I turn in the mirror. The crack is definitely bigger than it was. I rub it gently. It doesn't hurt at all. I stare at my reflection. I am very different aren't I? My eyes look like a dark lake when they used to sparkle like the stars they were shaped like. As I stare, the pools seem to quiver and shake before one shoots an image of what I looked like before onto the mirror. It looked like I was standing behind myself, our reflections were mingling. Then more memories. Me and Pappy playing in the hotlands, sneaking off to have snowball fights in Snowdin, laughing and watching TV together. Silent tears were streaming down my face as the memories were getting darker. I didn't even realize they were making noise until Pappy opened the door behind me and ran to cover my eye. I turned and hugged him tight, my sobs almost uncontrollable. I hated living this nightmare over and over, but I guess it's better than no memory at all. Eventually I back away from Pappy and sigh.

"S-SORRY P-PAPPY. I'M JUST SAD IS ALL." I sniff

He mumbles some comforting words and leads me back to the couch.

"Stay there for a while bro, you need something to calm you. I'll make some coffee for you. Here" He turned away with a wave of his hand.

An eyepatch that he summoned hovered beside me and I grabbed it. I place it carefully over my eye and lean back with a sigh. Yeah, some coffee does sound pretty wonderful. All of a sudden, Fell appeared beside me. I jump back with a yelp. He looks at me with a confused face and reaches toward my eyepatch. I turn away quickly and put a hand over the patch.

"SORRY! YOU STARTLED ME." I mumble.

Fell makes a sad noise and turns to the TV that is playing some sort of news show. I see a strange glint in his eye, but decide to ignore it and go see what Pappy is up to. The coffee maker is done, but he has fallen asleep standing up with his head on the counter. I shake him awake and fix myself a cup of coffee. Pappy goes off to see "Undyne" I know he's really going there to see Mettaton. Heh, my bro thinks I wouldn't notice how his eyes get all sparkly when he talks about the robot.

"TELL METTATON I SAID HEY!" I yell after him and he blushes.

I jump as I close the door and turn around to see that Fell is still here.

"OH! SORRY! I FORGOT YOU WERE THERE! WOULD YOU LIKE SOME TACOS OR SOMETHING?"

He seems to be trying hard to cover his face and he's turned away from me, but he nods so I head back to the kitchen. I whip up a quick batch of tacos and set them in front of Fell. He grins at me and I can't help grinning back. Then my smile falls and I sigh.

"WELL, I GUESS I BETTER GO AND CHECK UP ON ALPHYS. SHE'S MAD I'M NOT TRAINING AS OFTEN AS I SHOULD. YOU OKAY WITH THAT?"

Fell nods and I head out. I practice patterns on my way there. Hopefully she won't be too mad that the only ones I've practiced are defensive ones. 

She's pissed. She hasn't seen me for more than two weeks and the only thing she's heard about me from anyone in the last few days was from the shop owner that she had bullied into telling what I had been buying lately. She wasn't too happy when I tried to tell her of my situation either, she almost immediately started to attack me. Good thing I practiced those defense patterns after all. Man, she is harsh. Then a claw just missed my face and grabbed my eyepatch instead. She stood above me with her weapon raised, but a laser shot from my eye and formed another me behind her.

"BYE BYE FRIEND!" The laser me said, raising a knife.

She whips around and her eyes widen in shock. I roll away quickly, breaking apart the projection in the process, and snatch my eyepatch back over my eye. Me and her are both thinking the same thing.

"What... the... actual... FUCK... was that?" She gasps.

I shrug. That image... it was nowhere in my past. Could I have created that by being in danger?

"Well it was fucking AWESOME! That is the most clever diversion trick I've ever seen! Could you do it again? She was practically yelling.

I gulp and take off my eyepatch. I concentrate on the form that I want the laser to take and it shoots out to form in front of Alphys.

"DO YOU LIKE IT? REALLY? IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN" It said.

My eyes widen. It was actually speaking the line I formed in my head! Alphys reached out a hand and it went right through. She stares open-mouthed for a moment.

"So that's what you've been up to lately? Drinking and honing the most bad ass distraction anyone has ever seen? Heh, I'm proud of you squirt." She chuckles.

I grin a bit unable to stop myself.

"Tell you what, if you can beat me in a round later, I'll let you in. You can obviously take care of yourself if you have this thing to escape with. What do you say? Think you can beat me?"

I try to stop myself from jumping up and down. Excitement is coursing through my veins.

"YEAH I DO! YOU'RE ON ALPHYS. ONCE YOU'VE HAD A MOMENT TO REST ANYWAY!"

She chuckles and sits on the floor and I hand her a candy bar from my bag. I finally have a chance! There's no way I can screw this up!
