Kai's Pov

I haven't been home in 8 years, I stepped out into the sunshine and the hot air on my face felt like hitting a brick wall after the air conditioning of the airport. I looked around trying to see where Wes was parked. My little brother was leaning against the side of his truck on his phone, I could hear him talking to our mother the closer I got to the truck.

Wes: "Ma, the plane is delayed by like 20 mins, everything is probably fine." Wes looked up and smiled when he saw me. "Ma, he's here, ya, we are on our way." Wes hung up the phone and looked at me, "Hey bro! I missed you! It's been years!"

I instantly felt a little guilty, he had been just a pup when I left him and the rest of my family. I shook off the feeling.

Kai: "I know kiddo, I missed you too." I dropped my duffle bag and pulled Wes into a hug and squeezed him tight. I was hit instantly with a female smell, like Japanese cherry blossoms. "Dude. Who were you with? What is that smell?" It was like I couldn't get enough of the smell into my nose.

Wes: "Dude, get off me, you're practically humping my leg! I don't know, I was training before I came to pick you up. It could have been anyone." Wes pushed me off trying to get some distance between us. Wes bent down and picked up my duffle and through it in the back of the truck. "You ready, Ma is already on my case about your plane being late, as if I had some sort of control over it. Let's get a move on, we are supposed to be at Kirstie and Adam's rehearsal BBQ tonight and you fucking stink dude, you need a shower"

We got into the truck and Wes started it up, the stereo came on with smoke a little smoke. I pulled out a cigarette and rolled down the window, I watched as the landscape passed us by as we made our way out into the country to the pack grounds, the forest was becoming denser and I could see the houses getting bigger and the gardens expanding. I remember being young and thinking about how badly I wanted one of these houses and a wife and falling into the footsteps of my father. When I got older, I realised that being an Alpha was not for me, it wasn't what I was set out to do. My father and mother were so disappointed in me, like I had failed them. Wes was a child, but I could already see that he was more cut out to be an alpha than me, I was too much of a lone wolf, I was never a leader.
