A Decision To Be Strong

I turned to the corner in the kitchen to see my dad being ripped open by a zombie, and my mom trembling in fear holding a knife in hand and barely hiding behind the kitchen counter. The zombie didn't noticed me or mom, it was too busy feasting on dad. A wave of anger rushed through me and everything that happened came flooding in front of my eyes, the man that shot himself, Janet's merciless death, my dad being ripped open in front of my eyes and my mom weeping and trembling in fear, I was so frustrated and sad all in the same time I couldn't hold my shit together anymore, and before I could even realize, I was already holding my shovel right above the zoms head. It probably sensed my presence by then and turned to look back.
That's when I shoved my shovel in its neck and separated it's head from its body...

It was dead, it's body still twitching a little, I killed it. I felt terrible, before today I never harmed anyone and here I am now, killing people, zombies who were once people, like us, like me. I sat down in front of my dad's body, I couldn't hold my tears in and I burst out crying. My mom came out of her hiding and hugged me tight in her arms, she was crying so hard and trembling, she was scared of whatever she saw, she told me dad tried hard to save her but couldn't save himself. I wanted to cry too, I had too much for just one day, but I had to be strong, for my scared and hurt mom, I had to, and so I hold in all my tears and comforted her, I told her we will go away from here and that we will be safe.

Suddenly I heard two cars pulling over in front of our house and Kaila, Stella, Phillip, Rudy and his dad rushed in. They saw the dead zombie and my dead dad, they all had pained faces so I knew there parents couldn't survive either. Mom was still crying, I tried to calm her down and told her "I only lost my dad, but 3 of my friends lost their whole family, imagine how much pain they r going through for their age. Now, you and Mr Brandon (Rudy's dad) are the only people we kids can rely on. You have to be strong mom, for them, for all of us" I hugged her and she nodded while wiping her tears away..

Dad's body started to twitch, he turning into one of the monsters. Mr Brandon told us to go inside the car and that he will take care of him. Stella and Kaila took mom in the car, while Phillip and Rudy comforted me. I waited outside as Mr Brandon finished putting dad into rest...

After Mr Brandon was done, he patted me on the shoulder and said "you guys are really brave for your age, all of you" I forced a smile and got in Phillip's car with mom and Kaila. Phillip followed close after Mr Brandon to an unknown destination..
