After loosing Catherine from his life, Stephane devoted his time to his studies riding, archery and learning the ins and outs of managing his father's estates. He knew he'd be Lord Narcisse someday and he wanted to be prepared. He had gotten quite good with the livestock on the farms. He was still broken hearted of course over the loss of the best thing that ever happened to him but he had found a sort of escapism in the countryside. His father had arraigned a marriage for him to the daughter of a wealthy land owner named Rosemary and he had gotten to know her over the winter. She was a nice girl and they shared some common interests but she'd never be his Catherine.

After her wedding Catherine was miserable. She knew one of her ladies had betrayed her by telling Henry about her night of passion with Stephane and she prefered to spend her time alone. She felt like she couldn't trust anyone. The only comfort she has was Stephane's shirt that she was wearing the day she he was ripped from her arms. It was the only thing she had to remember him by. She knew it was silly to cling to some fabric like it was a person but she couldn't help it. A couple of months after her wedding, Catherine discovered she was with child. In the public rooms of French court she appeared as Henry's loving wife, pregnant with his child, an heir for France but in truth she was terrified. She didn't know who the father of her child was. It had been less than twenty four hours between her night of passion with Stephane and the consummation of her marriage. Henry became more affectionate with Catherine now that she was carrying an heir for France and in truth she liked having his love. They grew closer over the winter months and eventually Catherine decided it would be easier to tell herself that she loved her husband than to be in love with a man she'd never see again. She wrote to Stephane to tell him she was pregnant. She didn't feel right to keep a secret like this, that his child could be inside of her. Stephane wrote back and the pair wrote to each other every day. Catherine felt like she had someone she could talk to again, someone she could trust again.
