Tommy slowed down to a left turn, welcoming himself to the familiar serenity of his residence. He survey the yard looking for nothing in particular, his eyes darted to and fro as he drove down the driveway.
He saw a figure sitting under the Olive tree in front of his house. Without making out who it was, Tommy could tell it was a lady from her hairdo.
No doubt who it was. As he drew nearer, he noticed her knees brought up to her chin with her arms wrapped around her legs. Her head rested tiredly on her knees.
Tommy knew it was Grace though he wasn't expecting her, at least not this weekend since she told him she would be having a group reading with her friends.
He drove the car into the garage and parked the car. He quickly hooped out of the car and hurried to her.
"Hey" he mumbled. Slipping his index under her chin to tilt her head up.
She slowly woke up, blinking her eyes repeatedly. "Tom?" She said groggily.
"Hey, I'm right here" He cooed, pulling her into his arms. He felt the coziness of her body, he gasped, "Grace! You're cold"
"What time is it?" She murmured, snudging further into his warm body.
He glared at his wristwatch like it was it's fault he lost track of time. A low grunt rumbled in his chest, "It's almost 11" He croaked.
He quickly took off his suit and put it over her body to keep her warm. Then he scoped her up and headed for the front door.
"I'm sorry I came home late. My mom invited me to dinner and I lost track of time. I had no idea you'd come over today, that's why I didn't bother coming home on time" He explained, apologetically.
"It's not your fault" she mumbled, burying her head in his chest.
"But, you could've called me" He grumped.
Reaching the front door, He put her down on her feet. He dipped his hand into his pocket in search for his house keys. He brought out a bunch of keys and began searching for the right key to open the door.
"I did call you, your phone was disconnected"
"Oh fuck" He cursed under his breath. "I forgot to charge my phone after my cousin used it to play games. I'm so sorry"
He slid the key into the doorknob, with two turns, the door lock unlatched. Then he scoped her up again but she tried to resist.
"I can walk you know?" she groaned.
He dismissed her protest with a scoff and carried her anyway. She sighed in resignation.
"I could use some tea" She blurted as he entered the house.
"Okay. I'll make you some tea, but afterwards, you'll have to take a hot bath" He wheedled. She nodded.
They entered the large sitting room, Tommy gently placed her on the couch. He went to the bedroom and fetched a blanket. Returning to the sitting room, he covered her with the blanket.
"I'll go make some tea now, then I'll fix some hot water for you to bath" He informed.
She just nodded in agreement. Then he went to the Kitchen to make some tea. After making it, he poured out a little in a tea cup and he took it to her.
"Thank you" she mumbled, and accepted the tea.
He watch her take few sips of the tea, before he spoke up.
"So, what made you change your mind?" He asked. "The last time I asked, you said you have a group study with your friends"
She gulped down the last tea in her mouth. "I, just uh, well actually, I had to cancel" she lied, blinking hard as she swallowed.
