It was getting colder, Jessie was walking through the deserted streets. It was three years into the apocalyse now, her only mission was to atleast try and find her siblings. Nathan and Alia. If they were alive, Nathan would be twenty-one now, and Alia would be six. Jessie was seven-teen now. She'd encountered many groups, cannibals, Christians, people that in normal society would need to be put in a nut-house, desperate starving family's. And so many more, she had helped out all the good people though, Never went with them. They all had different goals in mind.
Her rifle was strapped to her back, the worn out combat boots were falling apart and her feet were freezing. She pulled the leather jacket against her stopped to put her hands on her neck. She shivered as the coldness of her hands touched the warmth of her neck, but it was soon made up for when her hands became warm. Her gloves had no finger spots. They had all worn off when climbing buildings and trees. Some of them had even gotten covered in Z blood. But she wasn't really worried about that. It all came off easily.
She wore dark skinny jeans and her socks were thick and wet. It was nearing the end of fall, last winter was bad enough, she had no idea if she would make it through this one.
The street she was walking was dead silent, cars were crashed, dried blood covered the ground and there was even a decaying hand in the middle of the road. It almost seemed a little odd. Whenever she went on this path it had at least ten zombies. She stepped cautiously through the street, examining carefully where she wanted to go.
Zombies aren't really that smart, so why would they possibly set up an ambush? She shrugged her shoulders and casually continued walking. She needed to find a store, and the closest one was a dangerous area in this broken city, but probably the most stocked. She was planning on leaving if she could quickly sneak in and find what she was looking for, but if there was absolutly nothing, it would just be a waist of time and her life
She decided that she would take a chance. She marched on through the streets. Reciting the chorus of the only lullaby she could remember her mother had taught her in her head.
Jessie passed many houses, painted with 'survivors inside.' Though Jessie knew they had probably moved on or died already. This was however a dangerous neighborhood, every once in a while there would be a group of thug survivors, or just massive herds of Z's. Abandoned booby-traps or anything dangerous for that matter, She hated being here and she knew that the store she was going into belonged to a survivor group that called themselves 'the demon wolves.'
To Jessie it was the most bull-shit group name she'd ever heard. Intimidating to a ten year old maybe. They could honestly go with a better name, after all... They were alot worse then the name sounded.
She'd heard a few survivors, and she had eavesdropped a few times, that they kidnapped children, then tortured them, getting information about anything, and killing them in brutal ways in front of everybody. They were just a bunch of monsters that deserved to have much worse punishment then a bullet in the head. The world might be over, but that didn't meen they had to commit such terrible things because nobody would stop them.
Jessie planned on doing something different this time though, not just sneaking in, but possibly even save a few children.
As she got closer to the building, she was just noticing how she could see her breath, she'd always imagined herself as a dragon that had run out of fire as a young child when she could see her breath. Now it made her feel like death was close. She was getting quite close to the store. It was pretty big, but she supposed a group so aweful would think it was perfect.
Something was off, there was nobody outside patrolling, infact the whole place looked even more abandoned then it usually did. Jessie slowly crept forward. No one on the roof, the old parking lot, nobody was even looking out the window. The big white van that they had aquired was flipped on it's side and pressed against the building.
