Chapter 5

The next two weeks before break were gone before I knew it. Now, Sirius and I were sitting in a train compartment with James, Remus, and Peter. Peter was eating, as usual. Remus was arguing with James about the importance of good grades, and Sirius was staring out the window.

I love an awkward silence as much  as anyone, but this was just weird. I had never seen Sirius so quiet in my entire life. I had thought that one of the four idiots I was sitting with would fill the silent void with some stupid story regaling their most recent detention with McGonagall. That however, was not the case.

I was getting fed up with James' and Remus' bickering, and Sirius moping by the window wasn't helping to ease the annoyance I felt towards the older boys. Glancing out the window, it was obvious that we still had a large portion of the train ride left.

"Will the two of you quit bickering?!", I asked with a pointed look towards Remus and James. "I am this close to leaving you idiots and sitting with Regulus," I deadpanned when they looked at me as if I had just grown two extra noses.

Granted, my twin brother hadn't spoken to me much since I was sorted into Gryffindor. I didn't hold it against him. I knew my mother had probably sent him a letter telling him to stay away. She didn't want any habits of mine to rub off on him.

Sirius, upon hearing my statement, looked up. His grey eyes met mine in a silent question, as if asking 'Are you serious?'. Scowling at the boy next to me, I said in an even firmer voice, one that had been compared to my mother, "I'm not joking."

"If you don't stop staring out the window with that stupid look on your face, I'm going to sacrifice myself to the snakes." That particular statement had Peter giggling from next to Remus.

Sirius gaped at my words, but continued moping nonetheless. Rolling my eyes, I stood up and walked out of the compartment. Working my way down the train, I had come across way too many sixth years snogging.

I had been mentally scarred for life, and it fueled my desire to find Regulus as soon as possible. When I finally found him though, he was with Snape, as well as Avery. Snape undoubtedly hated me for my association with James. The two second years were constantly conspiring against each other. Avery on the other hand, had practically grown up with me. It seemed there was no way to escape him, especially now that he seemed to have befriended Regulus.

Working a polite smile onto my face, I greeted the boys. Regulus was gawking at me as if my hair had suddenly turned yellow. Apparently he hadn't expected to see me until we arrived at Kings Cross.

"Regulus, close your mouth before you swallow a fly," I said, trying my hardest to suppress a smile. Avery let out a small chuckle while Snape's expression remained frozen. Regulus closed his mouth, only to open it again with a question.

"What are you doing here?," he asked. I blinked, wondering when his intelligence level had dropped. "Do I need a reason to talk to my brother?," I questioned with a small smile.

He shook his head, but asked the question I knew couldn't be avoided. "But what if someone sees?" I furrowed my eyebrows at his idiotic question.

"So what? I think being in Slytherin has deteriorated your intelligence. You used to be brighter than this," I said, not realizing how harsh my voice sounded at the moment.

Snape, who always took offense to everything I said, responded with, "Well at least he isn't a filthy Gryffindor." Whipping my head around to face the greasy haired git, I shot back with something I knew was going to cause a problem. But I said it anyway.

"Isn't your best friend a Gryffindor?" Snape scowled, but didn't say anything more. That's what I thought.

It was mere minutes until James and Sirius burst into the small compartment, with a disheveled looking Remus trailing behind them. Honestly, those boys were too dramatic for their own good.

Snape immediately upon seeing James, pulled his wand out of the pocket of his robes. Sirius, knowing exactly what to say to push the agitated boy's buttons, proceeded to scold him in a faux condescending voice. "Ah ah ah, no magic outside of school, Snivellus," he sneered, putting emphasis on the nickname at the end.

Rolling my eyes, I glanced toward James who seemed to find the ceiling in quite fascinating. My gaze shifted to Snape who reluctantly sat back down, just in time to escape the aftermath of the train's screeching halt.

James and Sirius toppled over and landed in a mess of limbs that were red from the impact of falling. The sight of my brother's facial expressions sent towards Snape sent me into a fit of giggles.

It was as if the two boys on the floor deemed it the fault of their enemy sitting only mere feet away from them that they were in such a predicament.

After unloading my luggage with the help of James, I met up with Sirius and Regulus. I tried to find any reason to put off searching for our parents, but Regulus not knowing what was going on, physically dragged me by the wrist all the way to the secluded spot in which our parents were standing.

Greetings were exchanged in the nicest way anyone had ever seen the adults behave. Obviously it was all for appearances, but it was still quite unnerving to hear my mother address me in a calm manner. "Y/N."

"Mother."

WHOOHOO! New chapter! This was the first time I had mentioned Regulus because I may or may not have forgotten he existed when I started writing this. Hope you all enjoy it!
All my love,
