Chapter Twenty

Chapter 20
April

Present Day

"I'm coming" I screamed with a mouthful of cake, rising up to my feet from the sofa in the living room to get the door.

I saw only the neck of the person through the peephole and wondered who it could be this Sunday morning.

I was certain it couldn't be Jordan since I didn't tell him where i lived. But i was wrong.

I opened the door to see him glaring at me.
I wanted to quickly go back inside and shut the door but as if he knew, he quickly entered through the vulnerable space i left open.

"You may come in," i said sarcastically, shutting the door behind me.

"I've already given you one whole week to get your proud ass together and I'm taking no more. " He turned around to face me. "What's all this about?"

"What's what about?" I folded my arms and intentionally acted unaware of the subject.

"You not talking to me, not picking my calls or replying to my messages? You wouldn't even look at me at the wedding and it took a lot of courage from my end not to have it my way because i didn't want to ruin the function"  He played with a strand of my hair with his fingers making me shiver but i kept it hidden.

"Need a booty call?" I scoffed, taking his hands away "Look, Milan was great but i can't continue this. I'm back to reality in New York with bills to pay, work to do, and dreams to achieve, i can't let a man stir me in the wrong direction"

"I would never do that"

"Says the man who can't keep his dick in one place" the words escaped my mouth before I could stop.

"What are you implying?" He stepped closer until my back hit the door.

"You know what? I'll let it all out. For years i have only been in sexual relationships, " i scoffed " I even set up rules for myself to protect my heart and it was going perfectly fine until you broke two of them and I started breaking them too. And the first time we had sex made me feel special because it was your first and that was when the rules started breaking.  Want to know what the rules were protecting me from?" I paused     "Love. I didn't want to fall in love. "  My chest was pounding fast after the revelation.

Silence. Deafening silence erupted.

He finally said "You have no idea how long i have waited for you to say that" He gave me a side smile leaving me totally confused.

"What do you mean by that?" I arched a brow at him

"I'm celebrating my company's anniversary this coming weekend, I'll show and tell you everything there"

He planted a brief kiss on my lips.

"I'll send you an invite to your office tomorrow" he paused "thank you"

"For what?"

"For beginning to fall in love with me" He opened the door and left.

I stood in my living room completely bewildered at what just happened. I had questions and things to say but he didn't give me the chance before leaving.

Later that evening, another knock on my door interrupted my Tv watch.

This time it was Sean.

The one rule i broke with Sean was letting him know where I lived. I stood under the porch, not inviting him in.

"I'm sorry about how I walked out last time but I just needed you to know it can never happen between us. We had good times no lies but it's high time we moved on. Getting attached to someone like me would be unrequited because I don't feel that way for you"
