~ CHAPTER 12~

Jameelah's POV

I knew something was up the moment I saw Ameerah. Her eyes were gleaming, the way it always did when she was overexcited.

"Assalamu Alaykum!" she said cheerfully. Mother and I climbed in the backseat, beside a hopeful-looking Jabir. Ameerah grinned from ear to ear, making her look slightly frantic, but I knew better. Her mood was contagious, and by the time we reached the Alis, I was mirroring the expression my best friend had.

As we walked towards Sa'ad's house,

Ameerah squeezed her little brother's hand. It was amazing how those two were close, and it lead me to think of Khadija and I.

"Assalamu alaykum," Aunty's voice came cheerfully. She wore no make up as usual, but her dazzling smile made her look stunning. She took a look at Ameerah and burst out laughing.

"Ameerah Williams, why are you looking so anxious?" she asked, wrapping an arm around her. "Hey, Jabir will be alright with Sa'ad and Shouayb. Stop worrying so much or you will spoil your mood!"

I grinned as Ameerah knelt down in front of her brother. She was visibly more relaxed now, and just casually placed a kiss on Jabir's forehead.

"Jabs, you will behave right?" she asked. Jabir nodded vigorously, causing Amee to grin even more. She looked up at Sa'ad, and with narrowed eyes, "Don't make him become like you!"

Sa'ad laughed, and takimg Jabir's hand, walked back inside. I couldn't help smiling a little at how sweet he was...In fact, he had always been sweet to everyone...

"Ready?" Ameerah asked as she buckled her seat belt.

"Yes!" came the reply of Mother and Aunty, who looked a bit more excited than they should.

I smiled, enjoying that part of life where everything is calm and awesome. I had to admit I was feeling a sheer happiness, almost like childishly glee, at the idea of spending some time without worrying.

We reached the shopping centre a quarter of an hour later. As the two adults teamed up and went towards the book store, Amee and I looked at each other.

"Thinking the same thing?" She asked me with a grin that I had almost forgotten. I nodded and we both rushed to the accessories store.

The arrays of colourful and glittery accessories made me take in a sharp breath. On one hand, I didn't want to finish all my money here, and on the other, I felt I would not be able to resist these tiny wonderful things.

Out of nowhere, my thoughts suddenly snapped to Sa'ad.

He was wearing a black tuxedo, with his hair combed back. He held a red rose in his right hand. He looked at me intently, his eyes focused on me. Getting down on his knees, he offered me the red rose.

"Jameelah will you—"

"Meelah?" Ameerah asked me, breaking me out of my lovely reverie. Her cheeky grin on, she grabbed my hand and pulled me to the far end aisle.

"Look!" She said, "wouldn't that lucky person be happy if you offered him this perfume?"

"Ugh I don't see what you mean," I replied, trying to keep calm but turning crimson. Ameerah grinned and put an arm around me playfully.

"Oh common Meelah... When will you admit your feelings? When will you accept that you are in love?"

"I'm not in love with Sa'ad!" I replied way too quickly. It was then that I realised I had just confessed my feelings to Ameerah. Trying to cover up for the slip of tongue, I quickly added an I know that was what you meant Ameerah... She looked unconvinced, but I knew that there was still a doubt in her mind.
