The was the first time Roy was seeing the World Tree up close. It did look like a tree but a massive one and made of yellowish golden light. The tree hummed with mana supplied from the subworlds. The world tree wasn't a bridge to other realms like he had initially believed, in fact the world Tree contained the other realms with Berrion included.
Roy shuddered at the thought that if something happened to the world tree all those subworld were as good as finished.
The black dragon's wing beat steadily as they approached the World Tree. They had been loaned one dragon so he and Odiana had to share it. With the way her hand was wrapped tightly around his waist he knew she wasn't much of a fan of dragon riding.
Roy smiled and wrenched the reins to the left. The dragon's left wing angled sharply and they spun in a corkscrew.
"Ahhh!" The Princess shrieked in fear.
"Hahaha!" Roy cackled like a maniac as he steadied.
The dragon snorted at him, he felt some irritation coming through their mindlink.
"Sorry bud" he reached forward and patted the dragon's scaly neck gently.
"Are you mad!" Odiana screamed in a much higher pitch than she usually spoke with.
"Heheh-" his laughter cut off as a large arm reached forward and wrapped around his neck in a choke hold, crushing his windpipe.
Odiana leaned forward and whispered in a low dangerous tone.
"Try that again and I'll rip your head off".
Roy knew that she could do that but he couldn't stop laughing. The princess had always been stuck up, always prim and proper and never able to utter a threat or even stand up for herself in a verbal contest, this was a good change for her.
His hand massaged the black rig with the huge gem adorning his left middle finger. Warrick said it was a totem meant to guide them once they entered the World Tree to the black world. The totem was also crafted to recognise when he had acquired the black flame and allow him to be transported back to Hellheim.
Roy knew what that meant. Once they entered the World Tree there was no turning back until the trial is completed and he was dragging Odiana into this mess.
The tingling feeling he had been getting had increased to buzzing on the surface of his skin. This was a side effect of the excess Mana given off by the World Tree as it sucked power from the subworlds and delivered it to Hellheim. Most of the mana went beneath the terrain to be transported to every part of Hellheim through the leylines.
"Are you ready?!" Roy screamed over the howl of the wind. The light of the World Tree was almost blinding as they approached.
The black dragon roared in affirmation, Odiana tightened her grip around him. 'Well that makes everyone'.
He leaned forward while he tightened his grip on the dragon's reins as they plunged to their possible demise.
