( strange... )
TAMARA hid behind a facade, a mask coated with blatant responses, sarcastic humor and blunt outspokenness. Soft eyes she made appear hard, stern and uncaring; tools she used to easily fool the most naive of people. A trick, a mirage, for people to avoid her so they wouldn't get hurt, that they would turn away and call her distasteful names. Or in some cases, act out and pull the first punch. She couldn't let people in... she didn't want anyone else to get hurt, not again and not by her hand.
She could only keep up false pretenses for so long, one that had easily become her new way of living, a layer of concrete that couldn't be destroyed, not yet anyway. She could only dive so deep into her half-masked persona for so long that she would eventually drown in it. And it came sooner than she expected. She was so invested into pretending she was someone else that eventually it gave her the punishment she needed to half snap out of it; expulsion from school.
It wasn't surprising, not to her mother at least who had expected the outcome from a mile away, yet still refused to confront her about it. It didn't even take long to relocate, the woman had been planning for days it seemed.
Change would be good, a change of scenery would be helpful she had hoped. An alteration in her daily routine would maybe present a chance for old yet familiar acquired taste. She can hope for only so much before she ruined everything again. She couldn't expose her abnormal self the way she did before and as much as she hated it, she needed to dial back on the anger and resentment for a man she had never met. She would not allow her mother to find out, nor would she be the cause of more of her disappointment.
Maybe Forks would be different, perhaps the constant cloud cover and lack of sunlight would be in her favour and they could actually start a life there; surrounded by a small town and away from large populated civilizations.
But it becomes apparent that the more she becomes accustomed to Forks and its residents, she uncovers and learns more about herself than she would like to.
Her past, present and future would collide in a large, yet impactful, way and she would be forced to be ready.
