CHAPTER 02;
BEING CAPABLE

                                                             THE NEXT MORNING, after a rushed breakfast and her mother throwing her a pair of gloves as they both rushed out the door, Tamara took the words her mother had spoken to her into heavy consideration. Her mother had pointedly stated that she was merely giving her daughter advice, but they both knew they were instructions.

"First, don't intimidate people with your sarcasm. Secondly, don't be too forward or blunt. God knows you get that from me. Thirdly, refrain yourself from getting into any fights. I don't want you back in the hospital. And lastly, at least try making some friends. For my sake. It's a small town, its possible."

As she walked carefully on the ice and snow clad ground, she already knew the first two would be next to impossible. Tamara was simply wired that way. However, the making friends part and preventing herself from getting into anymore fights, she would attempt. She didn't need to be expelled a second time. And she needed to stay in town knowing she wasn't the cause of anything bad occurring. She just hoped that at least some of the three hundred odd students could handle her. If they didn't, she didn't care either way. She preferred to be alone anyway. But that wasn't her goal.

She approached the Swans porch, on the verge of knocking when the door was pulled open, Bella out the door and greeting Tamara with a small smile. "Hi."

"Hey yourself." Tamara said with a grin, pressing her lips together when she saw Bellas father. She hadn't realised she would see him so early in the morning and if he was the Sheriff in the relatively small town, he probably knew why she moved in the first place. "Sheriff Swan."

If he knew about her, he didn't show it. "You must be Tamara," he said with a smile as she followed them down his porch. "Aren't you a tad bit cold?" He asked glancing slightly at her attire.

Truth be told, she should have been. With every other aspect of herself strange and changing, parts of herself she had discovered were no longer surprising. Bella and her father were wearing thick coats with just as thick gloves and probably more layers underneath. Tamara on the other hand, felt relatively okay despite the weather. She wasn't cold, but she could feel the icy breeze through her simple shirt and thin plaid cardigan, the gloves she should have been wearing in the side pocket of the bag that hung over her left shoulder.

She shrugged as she followed Bella to her red pickup truck. "Sort of used—" She shrieked as Bella slipped on the ice, the girl unintentionally grabbing Tamara's arm and pulled them both to the ground, flat on their backsides. Tamara couldn't help the laugh that escaped her lips when she looked at Bella. Her assumption from last night had been correct when the brunette had given her an embarrassed smile. She was definitely clumsy.

Sheriff Swan quickly ran towards them, helping both girls off the cold wet ground. "You girls alright?"

"Ice isn't really meant for the uncoordinated." Bella muttered as Tamara nodded. Clearly this wasn't anything new for her.

Charlie nodded, suddenly pointing to the tires on Bella's truck. "Got up early in the morning to install the new tyres. Don't want you girls swerving on the road."

"Dad, you didn't have to do that." She heard Bella say lowly as she made her way to the passenger seat of the truck. She could already assume by the simple interaction that the brunette wasn't used to being taken care of.

"It's the least I could do. Have a good day girls." He said as he walked off with a departing wave, making his way to his own car and driving the opposite direction of their route to school. She would know, she spent the better half of the night googling routes to the high school.
