Riddick stopped everything he was doing and stared at me.
"How do you know my name?" He asked.
"A girl I met in prison, Kyra, told stories about you and how you escaped a monster-infested planet with her. I mean she always talked about you, it's how I recognized who you were," I explained.
"You knew Kyra?" He asked.
"Yeah, she is kind of the reason why I broke out of prison. She had become more like a sister in the short time I knew her. Do you by chance have any idea where she might be?" I asked with a glimmer of hope.
He looked down and my hope quivered. He took a second to answer.
"She is in a place of no pain. She's dead." He told me.
I looked down in sadness and tried not to cry, crying in front of a stranger is not ideal, I cannot be vulnerable right now. If were vulnerable at a time like this he might take advantage of me, at least that's what I've learned in my experiences. I was processing what he said to me. Trying to connect something with her. Did she think about me? Did I matter to her? How did this happen? I thought she could protect herself. Then I remembered something and looked up at him.
"When you last saw her what did she look like?" I asked.
"She was in a Necromonger outfit." He said.
Anger and sorrow mixed as I stared at the ground. The people I hated the most once again took someone I loved away. Why did she convert? And if she was converted how did she die? I looked back up, another question popped into my head.
"Before that, was she wearing boots?" I asked.
He looked at me with confusion.
"They had spikes on the heel. I made them for her to help her survive in where we were at." I explained.
"The ones that spikes came from the back? Yes. Yeah, she was wearing them." he said.
"Kyra," I sighed
I kicked up some dirt on the ground.
"Why did you have to die? I was coming for you, we could've been free. I even swore on my mother's life for you". I said disappointed.
"How is that bad? Swearing on your mother's life?" He questioned.
I looked up at him.
"It's not, I just don't like swearing on the dead," I replied.
He gave me a squinted glare.
"We better get some rest, but before we do I have one rule if you're going to tag along. Do not get in my way, follow me at your own risk. Do not expect me to carry your work for you." he said
"Okay, got it. I will not get in your way and you do not need to worry about me," I said.
He went to his cot and I put out the fire. I don't sleep that often so I just stare at the sky until the sun begins to rise. I survey the ship and gather information. Riddick wakes up right as the sun becomes visible from the horizon.
"Good, you're awake. Pack up and let's go, there's no activity at the ship so that means something is happening," I said.
He packed up and we made our way to the Necromonger ship. We were about 23 meters from the ship when the ground started shaking. Riddick and I looked at each other with confused expressions for a moment and almost simultaneously we realized what was going on. The ship was taking off, which explains the lack of activity outside the ship. We began running at full speed hoping we could still reach it, but we were too late and the ship was gone. Riddick was livid, understandably. I think for a little, we are on a planet where there are rarely any space crafts and I am not going to steal from these poor people because those are the only transportation in and out of this planet. Riddick was cursing up a storm he was going on a tirade. I couldn't think of anything but to just go to the village and see what we could come up with.
