Narrator's pov-
"Here comes the Gryffindor team with none other than James Potter as the captain!" Alec Jordan announced as the team made their way onto the pitch. James smiled and waved towards the stands and cheers and applause broke out. James walked out to the middle of the pitch, oblivious to the other team being welcomed in. He stopped at the same time as Amos Diggory, both pausing to shake hands.
"Clean game boys, first game of the season," Madam Hooch looked over both teams before blowing the whistle and launching the quaffle into the air. Both teams sped up, Betty Jorkins (a Ravenclaw chaser) grabbed the quaffle and sped off towards the goal, tossing it over her shoulder to Jason Chang. Only to be intercepted by James, who passed to Alfie Peterson. He tossed it back to James, who caught it with ease. A rvencla beater hit the bludger towards James, but Sirius sped in front of him and effortlessly whacked it towards Marlene, who hit it at Davey Gudgeon. The bludger caught his left arm and caused him to drop the quaffle, which was caught by Hestia Jones underneath him. She tossed it to James who threw it into the goal and...SCORED!
"TEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR!" Alec screamed into the microphone.
"Its a microphone, Jordan. No need to scream," scolded Mcgonagall, but there was a hint of pride in her voice. The game continued on with no sightings of the snitch. James had scored 8 times, Hestia 6 and Alfie 5. This put Gryffindor at an advantage of 190-140. James was playing immaculately, passing to the right people and flying beautifully, of course the success was due to the whole team, but Potter's playing was certainly helping. He was trying his best to focus on the game, but his mind just kept straying towards Lily, he could almost feel her hands moving across his shoulders.
Suddenly, Dylan Thomas swooped down, moving gracefully towards a glinting golden ball. The Ravenclaw seeker shot after him, but she had spotted the snitch slightly too late. He was already reaching out, but heading for the ground at an alarming rate. He needed to slow down soon or he would hit the ground, his left hand was reaching out. He edged nearer to the tip of his broom and he didn't seem to notice as his broom hit the ground with an alarming crack. Screams and shouts flooded the pitch as the Gryffindor team flew down to where Dylan was crawling to his feet. He stood slowly, brushing the dust from his clothes, a smile exploded onto his face, splitting his cheeks from ear to ear. He held up his left hand and opened his fist to reveal the tiny gleaming ball.
"Dylan Thomas has caught the snitch, Gryffindor wins 340-140!" Cheers erupted the stands as people stood and screamed with joy. James landed his broom next to where Dylan stood.
"Alright, Thomas?" he said looping an arm around his neck.
"Brilliant Potter," he hung his arm around James' neck and threw his head back in glee, "bloody brilliant." As the team celebrate the win, Madam Pomfrey escorted Dylan to the hospital wing to get him checked over. The students made their way back to wherever they were going and Lily walked down the stairs to the field, arms linked with Mary. James' eyes scanned the crowd, spotting Lily easily, her fiery red hair was hard to miss. He called her name and tried to catch her eye but she didn't seem to notice as she started up a conversation with Marlene.
"Hey, are you guys coming back to my dorm and getting ready there?" Lily asked, vaguely gesturing between Marlene, Mary and herself, "Alice is coming but she's with Frank right now." The girls nodded and began to make their way back towards the castle, gossiping and giggling as they walked. James felt a sudden spurt of confidence.
"Evans!" he shouted, he watched as she stopped dead a turned around slowly.
"Potter." For some reason, calling him Potter no longer felt derogatory, "I'll catch up with you guys in my dorm." She told the girls, Marlene looked nervous and Marys face was stone cold, but they didn't argue.
