The sole heir

1. That day

Ruth Fernandez was this simple girl who is in love with books and literature . She never expected much for her life and the only thing she wished to God for is that her parents change their mind to cancel this divorce. But like she always thought god was not on her side . She dressed her little sister Leah for school before packing her lunch box .

" What is for breakfast? " asked the middle one Avery , coming to the kitchen as she placed her school bag on the counter and taking a seat .

" Pancakes." Ruth told before taking a seat herself and having her breakfast. Ever since her eighth grade she could remember she was the one making breakfast for her sisters and helping Leah to get ready for school. Her mother or father never cared as they were always on a run to reach their companies and to get promoted. They barely were home nowadays , and even if they were they would be at each other's throats. They fight over the simplest of things even Leah can't imagine .Ruth couldn't imagine they married in the name of love. They were in love at her age and now they can't even bear the sight of each other. The three children were sure they wanted nothing but a happy family. but their parents were always after being rich and buying expensive dresses to show off. Ruth could say her parents always thought about others then them. It was always what others thought of or don't ruin our good name.

Another day at school went by. She was a senior in her high school and it's just two months before her graduation.

"What happened ?" It was Zake Odgen , her best friend since sixth grade and her partner in crime. He is more like a brother from another mother. they are closer and he is the only one who understands her more than anything.

" Its her essay went astray" "and she just visited hell in her room" It was the twins, Daisy and Violet who answered .They are the other two friends who Ruth had other than Zake. They are unidentical but do everything simultaneously.

"What ? In her english class ? I thought Ms.Hannah showed an exception for her."

" She nearly had, but Ruth ruined it today." Daisy said carelessly as they made their way back to the parking lot.

Ms.Hannah aka hell was their english teacher and everyone loved her because of her lessons but if even as a pin moves from her class you'll know why she is called hell. She loved Ruth because she excelled in literature and had her future bright . But today Ruth had an essay to submit and we can say it didnt go well.

" Oh Zake you should have heard her essay . It sucked." Violet cracked in laughter again as she remembered it.

" Cigarettes, they are harmful. Smoking causes cancer, emphysema and many other diseases . There is nothing good about it . But people still use it for temporary comfort. I don't actually know what this temporary comfort is because I haven't used it. Everyone knows it is deadly . So I don't understand why people still use it even after knowing all these. Because of these I still don't know what makes them a chainsmoker "

"See you guys tomorrow then." the twins said simultaneously as they got in their car and it drove past them.

Zake knew what was the turmoil in her head and told her.

" Just chill, will you.It's not the end of the world and come on just smile , your face looks like a rotten egg . It's your birthday in two days. Will you cheer up a little, your sisters are coming ". zake gently ruffled her hair and as he hopped on his bike and went.

Somewhat his words calmed her and she didn't want her younger sisters to see her as broken .Without any more words they walked back home.

" Happy birthday.. Ruth" Zake hugged her as he held her up a second in the air and put her down. He always had this welcoming smile which she loved the most about him . Despite everything he will be facing , he always faced everything with positivity .
