"Vanissa- Ben's girlfriend" Iris registered it to her brains

Stella and Edwin looked at each other as if they had seen a ghost but quickly composed their expressions as Stella continued to comfort Vanissa out of her misery, which seemed to have cramped her whole world.

Edwin seemed to be a bit upset too as he tightened his grip around Iris's shoulders.

"Edwin" Iris called softly not to disturb the silence outside the room with green and red lights.

Slowly he shifted loosening his grip from her shoulders and bent down looking at Iris face-to-face resting on his knees.

Iris took her time taking in his facial features and his muscled chest beneath the crisp gray and black striped shirt that she had fallen for and suddenly she felt two blue eyes looking at her. Cautioning herself, Iris looked at Stella who averted her gaze immediately, her focus back to Vanissa who was now sipping a glass of water offered by hospital staff, quite obvious that Stella had asked for one.

Iris mentally apologized Stella for gawking at her husband but could she be blamed...

Again what Iris called him for was more important "Please tell me he is going to be okay. He doesn't deserve to be here. I should have brought him with the reality that I am a scumbag, a whore."

Edwin was now holding both her hands rubbing his thumb around them in circles, nervously thinking and trying to verse out his words but failing miserably.

Iris could feel it from the movement of his lips that failed to part completely choking his set of words that he wanted to speak.

"Vanissa..." Iris tried to shout but couldn't it turned out only to be a soft whisper but with the silence of the hospital she heard it perfect and lifted her sad face with reddened eyes at Iris making her feel guiltier, "I am so sorry Vanissa. I wish. Only if...." and she choked on her voice sobbing bitterly.

Edwin hugged her and held her hands

As in a reflex or in guilt consciousness Iris looked at Stella but the other guilt much stronger than this emerged in the depths of her heart.

It was of Ben being hurt because of her and his girl friend; she least deserved to be into this, especially on their anniversary.

But...again why didn't Ben tell me about his girlfriend and if he had one why was he flirting with me all the while?

In fact he was begging me to become his girlfriend...

Iris was confused.

She recollected his genuine eyes after the fight at the boxing rink, he really wanted her to be his...

"Iris" Edwin had to call twice; she was lost in thoughts trying to metaphor what the girl was saying.

Is she another thug by Brent? Iris doubted

But her tears and her eyes they seem to be genuine and reaching her heart.

"Iris" Edwin called again and pressed her hand a little harsher, his soft smooth touch now replaced.

He had a tense expression on his face as he shifted his neck towards Stella who nodded at him with a cue to continue.

"Iris... Ben" he hesitated.

Iris was panic struck, her heart beating wildly "What!!!! What did the doctors say? Is it severe?" looking at Edwin.

"No Iris relax" Edwin demanded for attention. "He is going to be okay. I made sure that the best of the doctors are attending him. We need him. Our country needs him"
