Generated word of the day - Wind!

Sequel to Mechanism!

It was another cold winters day in Redstonia, the small engineering town plagued by what felt like a never ending blizzard. The island would have appeared completely deserted if it weren't for the lights shining behind every house's drawn curtains, everybody hiding away from the cold. The sky was a dark, ominous grey, thick clouds. obscuring the sun and making the world appear dark.

Olivia shivered as another violent gust of wind howled outside the walls of her house, subconsciously tugging her thick red jacket more tightly around herself. It was warm inside the building, but simply hearing the wind as she watched snow pile up outside the windows made her feel colder. As much as Olivia loved everything about Redstonia, she couldn't deny that she often missed Beacontown's significantly warmer weather.

The thought of Beacontown pulled Olivia from her trance. She shook her head to herself, continuing to work about in her tiny kitchen. Delicious smells were quickly beginning to drift through the building, distracting from the nasty weather outside. Olivia's cat wove through her legs as she worked, purring and rubbing his head against her as a subtle beg for whatever smelled so tasty, despite the fact that his own food bowl was filled to the brim.

Olivia absent-mindedly bent down to stroke the cat's head, feeding him a tiny piece of chicken. She shuddered again, the kitchen window rattling as the window tugged at it. The awful blizzard had them trapped inside all day already. Not that she had intended to go anywhere, even with better weather.

Once more reminded of what she was doing, Olivia began scooping out some of the food she had cooked. Her cat watched dejectedly as she left the kitchen, before glumly returning to his own bowl of boring cat food.

Walking down the hallway, Olivia reached out and carefully pushed open the wooden door of the guest bedroom. It was dark inside, but Olivia flipped a switch beside the door and instantly flooded the room with light. There was a loud groan in protest, a lump underneath the covers on the bed squirming.

"Come on." Olivia said, giving the figure a gentle prod. "Get out of there, I made you soup."

There was another moan in protest, before Jesse poked her head out with a sleepy expression. Her thick chestnut hair stood out in all directions, strands dangling over her pale face.

"You look like something that can scare kids in the dark." Olivia commented with a chuckle, reaching over and brushing some of the hair out of her friend's eyes.

At first Olivia had been a little annoyed when Jesse's reckless antics out in the snow had gotten her sick with a cold on her first day there. But looking after her friend the past few days had actually been nice, if anything, it reminded Olivia a lot of the time she, Jesse and Axel used to live in their first tree-house together. She was definitely the more sensible member in the group back then, and often ended up being the one to look after and patch up the others.

"Breakfast?" Jesse asked groggily, her eyes landing on the bowl of soup Olivia held.

"Dinner, actually." She corrected, sitting down on the side of the bed and holding the bowl out to Jesse. "I didn't want to wake you, but you already slept through lunch. Here."

Jesse sceptically looked down at the food Olivia offered her, clearly not very hungry. Then she looked back up at Olivia, giving her her famous puppy dog eyes.

"Nu-uh, I'm not feeding you, eat it yourself." Olivia said sternly, promptly placing the bowl of soup in Jesse's hands. "You've got a cold, you're not dying of the plague."
