After that very eventful, and very stressful day, Spencer Briggs decided that she would finally go home. Just for the night. It had been days since she had slept in her own bed. That was quite sad. John B had told her that she could come over and crash at his place if she needed to. JJ, Pope and Kie would've let her as well.

It was dark when she went back home. The events from the day still raced around in her mind. Spencer wondered what the two men wanted with the medallion, and why they wanted it so badly, as she walked home, and what they would do next to try and get it. Another thought that raced through her brain wasn't a thing, but a specific person.

She slipped into her house as quietly as possible, praying her dad wasn't there or at least in a deep sleep. Spencer crept towards the staircase when she put her foot up onto the first step it creaked underneath her. She winced and didn't move, listening out. When she thought enough time had passed, she breathed out in relief. But it was too soon and she heard movement coming from the living room. She mentally cursed herself.

An unsteady figured emerged from the living room, hesitating and wobbling in the doorway. Spencer squeezes her eyes shut, trembling slightly. "Spencer?"

"Yeah, it's me." Spencer said, slowly, trying to keep her voice from breaking as her dad moved closer to her. "Where the fuck have you been?" He growled down at her.

"I-I was with friends." She explained, taking a small step back, her whole body shook with fear.

"Friends?" He repeated. "Those boys? You know what people think of you. Hanging around with all those boys, you little whore." He spat. Spencer stuttered at she assured him they were just her friends.

She had expected getting hit, but not so soon or suddenly. She had been cut off guard. Spencer stumbled back, holding her burning cheek in her hand. She didn't make a sound, she was used to it. When she so slowly tried to stand up, she was violently shoved back down. Her head hit against the wall. This time she let out a small cry. When her dad turned around and took a swig of beer she bolted up, which wasn't the brightest idea as she had just hit her head. She didn't hesitate, though. Spencer pushed him and streaked our the front door. Her father screamed after her as she continued running. She was afraid he'd follow her, but he didn't bother.

When she had gotten enough distance between herself and her home, Spencer stopped and considered her options, wondering which friend's offer she'd take up. Obviously, she decided on JJ. Her cheek was still scalding from the slap, and her head was aching and she felt dizzy, she was lucky she hadn't hit it any harder, she lightly touched her head and she saw blood on her fingers. Spencer was barely keeping in tears by the time she arrived at JJ's house. She rapped her knuckles on the door and waited.

JJ answered, looking tired. "Hey, Spence. Are you okay?" He asked, studying her.

At first Spencer nodded, "perfect," she replied. But then her lip started to quiver and she shook her head. JJ stepped closer to her and noticed her bleeding head. "Shit, you're bleeding." He said and Spencer started to cry, she threw her arms around his shoulders and sobbed into his shoulder.

Spencer sat on JJ's counter, holding a wet cloth against her bleeding head. "So, what happened?" JJ asked, gently, leaning against the counter beside her.

Spencer smiled sadly. "Fucking bastard father." She said and checked if her head was still bleeding then placed the cloth back against her head. JJ nodded. "What he do?"

Spencer looked across at him. "The usual, you know." She shrugged. "Hit my head pretty hard, though. I'm not going back there. And the others offered to let me stay over if I wanted to as well." She paused and smiled. "But you're kinda my favorite, you know. Anyways, yeah."

JJ stared across at her. Spencer had focused her eyes on her hands. "Hey, can we go somewhere?" She asked and glanced over at him. JJ grabbed his keys. "Sure, where?"

"Somewhere, anywhere." Spencer said and hopped off the counter, she grinned up at him. "Everywhere is ten times better at night."

The two teens sat looking out ahead of them, music was playing quietly on the radio in the background as they conversed. Then Spencer opened the door on her side and stepped out. She turned back to JJ, "come on."

Spencer leaned her head back as she looked up at the starry night, she smiled at the beauty of it. She took a few more steps forward and then lay down on the soft grass beneath her. JJ followed her and lay down next to him. Spencer looked over at him. "Thanks, J." She said quietly. He turned to look at her and nodded. "Yeah, of course." And then added, "you know you can stay with me for as long as you want."

Spencer smiled and found his hand, lacing their fingers together. "I think I might just do that." She said and stared back up at the sky. Neither of them spoke. Spencer had never felt so calm and happy in her entire life.
