"And here I am thinking, why I had to try to chase the road to you..."

I wiped the tear that escaped my eye as I walked home... She was forced to leave... She didn't want to come home. Her words from back last year crept into my mind as I walked past the park. That moment when we walked through the park in the dead of night tears streaming down her face as she apologized...

"Greyson... I don't want to leave... I promise you, I'll make it back as soon as I can... I'm just testing the waters... Checking if I could survive there. I'm sorry I can't return the love your giving me right now. I'm sorry for leaving you right now. I'm sorry, but I promise that I'll come back, no matter what... You know I'll always come back to you... I will never think twice..." Her exact words made me flinch.

I swallowed hard and continued to walk, she was leaving tomorrow and she wasn't planning on telling me. What was the use of that confession back there if she was never going to wait for me... The cold breeze blew through the empty streets of Oklahoma, a couple of stray leaves flowing through the wind, the pale old pavement leading me home. I continued on, my head all jumbled up and messed up from the things I'd found out throughout one day. My phone buzzed in my coat pocket and I swiftly answered.

"Greyson..." A voice panted.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Lauren. She's leaving. Tomorrow at three in the afternoon aren't you going to do something?!" Austin's voice zoomed through the phone line and into my ear.

I ran my fingers through my hair for the fifteenth time tonight, "No, I mean yes... I me- I DON'T KNOW!" I said exasperated with myself.

"Man, what do you mean you don't know?" He asked.

"It's just not clear in my head yet..." I said sighing.

"Well, you better think fast..." He whispered.

"I will, I'll just, um, see you sometime tomorrow or something... Bye." I said hanging up.

I turned on my feet going the direction of town instead of home. The empty streets surrounded me, the piercing silence slowly making me deaf, the endless road crushing me with possibilities... Soon I'm walking through town, old buildings surrounding me, familiar names surrounding me giving me a sense of peace, at least one thing stayed the same. An open twenty-four hour diner just a couple of meters away, a homeless beggar lying on a street with only a folded box to sleep on, a dormant stoplight blinking robotically at me, and the long outstreched street, in front of me. Though the street was desolate my mind was greatly filled with thoughts, questions and answers.

My mind flashed random images and memories of us. I looked around and realized I was near the edge of town, the part of town where numerous thrift shops were situated. Thrift shops that sold old books, clothes, jewelry, anything that would pass as vintage. I sat myself on the curb as I waited for a bus, my thoughts distracted me from realizing how long and far I had walked, my feet ached as I sat there, my head spinning. An old lady was closing her store up to my left, having a hard time pulling her old, vintage, rusted door closed. I rose to my feet offering her a hand. She sent me a tender smile as we walked to the waiting shed nearby.

I stared at the pavement beneath me, staring especially at the details of it. The old woman peered at me curiously as I stared incredulously at the road. Another cold breeze passed by and I remembered the days when we would run through the streets chasing each other, young and wild and free with no fear whatsoever, we believed we owned the world. A longing smile slowly crept on my face as I thought of the endless childhood memories pushed down in the back of my mind.
