Chapter 3

Every song I played got stuck on repeat in my head. And the singer's voice was so eerily familiar, but I just could not pin down why that was.

I stared at my computer screen, just hoping, praying to see a response from the band. After what felt like an hour passing, I looked at the time and realised I've only been waiting for five minutes.

I sighed loudly, spinning around in my chair then getting up to make a sandwich, my black and blue gaming chair rolling back and hitting my desk as I did so.

Did I game? No. Was it comfy though? Fuck yes, it was.

After making my sandwich, I plopped myself down into my chair again and took a bite, reloading the page impatiently, ignoring the crumbs that fell out of my mouth when I grunted in dismay.

I reloaded it again and my eyes lit up. I could feel my hands start to shake. Why was I so nervous? It's not that big of a deal. I didn't even freak out when I got accepted into the school I attend. Maybe my priorities need sorting, I suppose.

Gingerly, I dragged my mouse along the mouse pad until my cursor was hovering above the email that I was oh-so excited about.

I skimmed it through, shaking with anticipation. The chunk of half-chewed sandwich almost fell right out of my mouth as it hung open in shock.

"I'm a guitarist!" I thought outloud, doing a victory dance, of which I mean I spun around in my chair several times because I really didn't want to stand up.

"[Y/N], shut up you're waking me up." Kyle whined. It sounded more like a cry of pain really. He didn't really seem to mind yesterday when I was the one who was woken up early and sent out to get him some peace tea.

"Bold words for an annoying rat." I laughed under my breath, hearing him grunt as he rolled over in bed. I resumed my earlier thoughts.

"Man." He corrected me, before his quiet breathing was replaced with snores, just loud enough to be audible, but not enough to bother me.

'It's 1:43pm...' I pondered momentarily. He must have stayed up late last night calling his brothers. I moved to sit on my bed, chuckling to myself before deciding to tell Awsten the good news. Though, when I picked up my phone, I already saw a congratulatory message from the contact I nicknamed 'jelly boi'.

I unlocked my phone after clicking on the notification, immediately being brought to the text conversation.

Jelly Boi: Congrats, [Y/N] 🥳
Jelly Boi:  I don't like that emoji. Don't let me do that again.
Me: Pfft
Me: Fine by me.
Me: Also
Me: Congrats for what?
Jelly Boi: Getting the guitarist thing. U know.
Me: Oh! I was just gonna tell you that, actually.
Me: Are you friends with one of the band members or something?
Jelly Boi: Oh, Sweetie, I am the band.
Jelly Boi: Well... A band member. The singer. Hi
Me: OHHHHHH THAT'S YOU THAT'S WHY IT WAS SO FUCKING FAMILIAR

I seized up out of realization, almost throwing my phone across the room as a surprised, understanding look tore it's way across my face. I had to hush a squeal so that I didn't disturb my silly sleeping roommate.

Jelly Boi: Tis I.
Jelly Boi: Anyway, do u wanna come over to Otto's house for ur first waterparks band practice?
Me: Boy! Would I?!
Jelly Boi: Idk why do you think I'm asking
Me: Awstennn
Jelly Boi: Lmao tight. I'll send u the address n' I'll see u in a bit

Jelly Boi has sent you an address.

I thrashed in my bed in excitement. First band practice. Cute lead singer guy. Best day ever.

"So, [Y/N]. This is Otto, our drummer..." Awsten told me, motioning over to the long haired man to the left of him. Otto had in a nose ring and was wearing a baseball cap with the words 'east or west' messily stitched into it.

When he caught me looking at it, he simply told me, "It's an inside joke."

"And this man, here, is Geoff. Spelt like G-E-O-F-F." He informed me, pointing a thumb at the man to the right of him. He also had a nose ring, but his hair was lighter in colour and it was a a lot shorter than Otto's. "He plays guitar for us, but you're also going to be doing that."

"Awsten take off your sunglasses." Otto laughed. I noticed the colourful, pink, heart shaped sunglasses on his face. Much later than I should have, to be totally honest.

"No. I'm sexier with sunglasses than without." He said, crossing his arms in an act of goofy defiance, meaning well, and having it come off that way. I stepped forward, reaching up and gently took off the sunglasses, revealing awsten's pretty, unique eyes, along with furrowed eyebrows, accompanied by a grumpy face. He didn't stop me as I placed the sunglasses on my face.

His expression softened. "I like them better on her, actually. Shall we practice, good sir?" He asked, extending his hand out for me to grab. I accepted it, squeezing roughly as revenge for calling me sir.

"Kinky hoe." Otto muttered jokingly under his breath, though, Awsten still nudged his side, causing Otto to jolt. "Ow!"

For the next couple of hours, the boys- Awsten, Otto, and Geoff- and i practiced songs. They taught me how to play some of theirs, and to my surprise, I caught on very fast, though had a bit of difficulty with playing '21 questions', not that Awsten seemed to notice anyway. He was just smiling at the jokes I made as I played, trying desperately to stop laughing so that he could sing. Otto and Geoff gave him what I can only describe as knowing glances, though I didn't know why.

"That was fun. I enjoyed that." I told them, smiling awkwardly, though not uncomfortably. They nodded.

"Yeah! I like having ya around. Awsten seems to feel like that too." Geoff stated, prodding Awsten in the arm with his elbow. Awsten shrugged, face beginning to look a shade of dusty pink. I laughed.

"We should do that again." Otto said.

"I mean, that's what bands do. Kinda gotta practice." I replied, nonetheless, nodding in agreement with the suggestion.

"But with all the laughing, yeah?" Awsten asked, giving me a hug and taking a step back. Otto and Geoff mimicked the action. I nodded.

"With all the laughing..." I smiled, adding a quick "yeah" after to mock Awsten jokingly. He laughed, shaking his head.

"See ya later guys!" I said, leaving the house with a wave.

"Byeee!" They replied, bidding me farewell.

And when I got home, I noticed that the sunglasses were still on my face, and Remington was still asleep for the entire time I'd been gone, and still going on strong.

A/N: Sorry! I know this chapter was short and pretty shitty but it's 4am while I'm writing this so please don't be so critical. I'm just trying to pass time until I get sleepy enough to actually sleep. Hopefully I'll be able to now.

Anyway, with that, I bid you all adue. I hope you enjoyed reading this more than I enjoyed writing it (I'm tired. Didn't really enjoy it. Pfft.)

Good (K)night!
