WHEN MARCELINE SAID she was going to explain, Bonnibel, a part of her hoped that it wouldn't be anything life-changing — but what was she expecting? That man had been anything but normal, unless she was merely seeing things.

And then, how had Marceline entered her room without her noticing? Aunt Lolly didn't know who she was–oh, but Neddy did, maybe he was the one who let her into the house in the first place. Maybe he had told her their address and hadn't told Bonnibel about it. But how did she not notice her?

"Okay," Marceline straightens and starts to pace around the room, while Goliad eyes her curiously from next to Bonnibel. She pauses abruptly, one foot still in the air, then whirls back to face Bonnibel, who was feeling extremely confused, scared, and a whole lot of other things she couldn't exactly put into words.

"Please don't freak out or anything," Marceline waves her hands dramatically in the air, merely deepening the look of confusion on Bonnibel's face.

"How can I not freak out when there's some–I don't know–demon man outside my window like five minutes ago?!" Bonnibel snaps, the stress of all her emotions threatening to break her down.

Marceline darts forward and clamps Bonnibel's mouth shut with a hand, her eyes wide and urgent.

"Keep it down!" She hisses.

Bonnibel eyes her suspiciously, then nods slowly, and Marceline releases her with a sigh.

"That was my dad–"

"–your what?!"

"Can you just–!" Marceline groans, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "Let me explain!"

"That was the worst thing you could've said first!" Bonnibel argues back, lowering her volume slightly when Stormo meows grumpily from the foot of her bed.

Marceline barely spares the cat a second glance as she says flatly, "So what? Want me to tell you that my dad is the king of demons?"

"What the–"

"–Bonnibel! Is everything alright?" A knock came at the door as Bonnibel's mouth hangs open in the utmost confusion and horror she could possibly display in that moment as Marceline watches her stonily, her arms folded across her chest, her gaze challenging.

"Bonnibel! I'm coming in!" Lolly twists the doorknob, and right before Bonnibel's eyes, Marceline vanishes, and in her place was a black cat with glassy, green eyes that were way too human.
