THE LAST PART of Bonnibel's holidays were boring. Decidedly boring. Dreadfully boring. She had just about read up on all her subjects for the new term, finished all the books in her possession, and experimented and tested her hypotheses with everything she wanted to. There was nothing left for her to do. At least, there was nothing that popped up in her brain that could possibly entertain her at this point.
Well, perhaps she could go through that one chemical theory again. There might have been something about it she didn't get. Might.
She slowly rises from her desk, which was littered with all sorts of models, stationery and diagrams, groaning as she stretches out the kinks in her back and sides. One would think her body would have already adapted to spending long hours crouched over countless books and papers, but her stiff shoulders told a different story. She glances over to where Goliad and Stormo, her two sphinx cats, were napping peacefully on her messy bed, smiling a little at the tranquil sight in front of her.
She'd probably make green tea and get back to her work.
But just then, her phone buzzes, and eyes narrowed, she clicks on the message that lingers on her lock-screen.

- swimming pool at 3?The swimming pool? Bonnibel racks her brain, figuring that she'd rather have something to do other than reanalysing chemical theories. Besides, she hadn't been spending much time with her friends, and what was summer vacation when she didn't hang out with them? She won't get in the pool though; she'd just look after their idiotic asses.
She replies quickly, then heads down the stairs with every intention to make her tea, still.
Her twin brother, Neddy, is draped across the sofa, video games blasting from his Switch. Bonnibel notices it's Animal Crossing, so she doesn't disturb him, instead choosing to head straight to the kitchen, where Lolly, her aunt, is humming as she cooks.
"Smells delightful," Bonnibel remarks, leaning over Lolly's shoulder to sniff the aroma wafting from the pan.
"Of course," Lolly sports a smug smile, tilting it slightly to show Bonnibel the red sauce bubbling appetisingly. "It's spaghetti for dinner."
"Yes, please."
Lolly chuckles at her enthusiasm, reaching for a spoon in the drawer next to her. "Going out?"
"Yeah," Bonnibel takes her pink mug from the cupboard and searches in the cabinet next to it for her favourite brand of green tea. "We're going to the swimming pool. Why?"
"Well, you just never come down," Lolly points out, tasting the sauce, a satisfied smile on her lips when she lowers the spoon. "Always cooping up in your room to study."
