CHAPTER TWO
BOYFRIEND
Later that night, well morning technically I lay in bed wide awake. Leah snored lightly next to me and rolled over. I sighed and wondered what I would be like if it was Jake lying in my bed next to me instead of Leah. HAH fat chance Layne. I thought. What were you even thinking making out with Jake Richards? Jake would have a new girl by Monday and I would be history.
I woke up at 10:27 the next morning. Leah was still a lump next to me. The silence was odd, she should have been snoring. I nudged her but she didn’t budge. I threw the blankets off my bed and revealed a pile of pillows where Leah should be. I noticed that the bathroom door was open when I had shut it last night. I crept through the bathroom into Caius’s room and sure enough Leah was squished into his bed and his arm was around her.
I put my lips next to Caius’s ear.
‘Wakey, wakey Sunshine,’ I yelled into his ear. He woke with a start leaping out of bed. I grinned, the exact reaction I was looking for.
‘What the hell did you do that for?’ he whispered angrily. ‘I cant believe you look lie that in the morning,’ he said looking me up and down. I ignored his comment. But a second glance in the mirror told me he was right. I hadn’t taken my make-up off and I had a serious case of panda eyes, my hair which had been perfect last night was now a tangled mess that resembled something from an old sci-fi movie and I had trail marks on my cheek that comes from drooling in your sleep. Lucky thing Jake wasn’t here to see me now. I changed the subject before he could go on about how ugly I was.
‘Your just lucky that it was me who woke you up and not mum or Graham cause you would have been toast buddy,’ I said with my hands on my hips.
Leah woke up.
‘Oh hi Layne,’ she said sleepily rubbing the sleep from her eyes. HAH even Leah couldn’t look perfect when she was waking up.
‘Good morning Leah, your brother is picking you up in twenty five minutes so I suggest you get out of bed and tell me about your night adventures sneaking around with my brother hey or I might just have to tell your brother what you’ve been up to,’ Both Leah and Caius looked petrified. Leah’s 19 year old brother Liam Turnbull had made it very clear that any boy who so much as touched his little sister would have to answer to him and his really scary mates. Mecca Brown-Miller had found out the hard way and unfortunately for him Liam got wind of what had happened between him and Leah and gave Mecca a stern talk to and a clip around the ears for his trouble. The boys were a bit wary of hooking up with Leah after that but she assured them that if they didn’t brag about it to anyone then it should be fine. Plus no one could stay away from Leah for long. Everything went back to normal after that and Mecca and his family moved back to New-Zealand. Everyone thought it was because of Liam but later we found out that his older sister who was still living there was really sick.
‘Jokes guys lighten up,’ I said dragging her out of the bed and back through the bathroom to my bedroom.
‘I’m sorry Layne,’ she said rubbing sleep from her eyes.
‘Nah it’s cool. If you wanted to be alone with Caius all you had to do was ask,’
‘You’re a good friend,’ she smiled disappearing into the bathroom for a shower.
I’m your best bloody friend,’ I called
‘That’s why I love ya,’
By the time she got out her brother Liam was in the driveway in his blue skyline and radio pumping out the hilltop hoods so loud you could have heard it half way down the street. I said goodbye to Leah and went back upstairs to my room via the kitchen for a glass of chocolate milk. I flipped open my phone and saw I had received a message. It wasn’t from a number in my phone book but I opened it anyway.
