Atsushi and Akutagawa had been sent on another mission together. Dazai had made them track down a talented assassin with a powerful ability. They had succeeded and were now making their way to the Agency, where they could report their success to Dazai. It was a bit late as they set out, and the sky was beginning to darken. It wasn't very cold, although Atsushi had to use his coat to cover one of Akutagawa's wounds, and had lost it during their battle. Akutagawa, however, still had his Rashomon coat, which he wore almost all the time.
They had their differences, but they were starting to bond more, which had been Dazai's intention all along. As they began their walk back, they started to have a genuine conversation, like they weren't rivals. Since it had been a little late when they set out, the sidewalks were almost completely empty of people. There was a small store though, which Atsushi had slipped inside and gotten bubble tea.
"Seriously, how childish can you get?" Akutagawa asked dryly, accepting the cup offered to him.
"Hey, bubble tea is amazing, no matter how old you are! Seriously, you need to lighten up a little," Atsushi retorted.
Akutagawa sighed, seemingly not agreeing with this message, but he drank the bubble tea anyways. He was skeptical at first, but Atsushi was definitely right about it tasting good.
"See, I told you it was good!" Atsushi said, smiling warmly for a second. Akutagawa silently nodded and fake coughed, in an attempt to hide the very light blush on his cheeks.
As their walk continued, Atsushi started to wish he still had his coat. It was getting colder and colder, and as they sat down on a bench to take a much needed break, Atsushi felt himself shivering. A deep frosty feeling rose up through his bones and directly into his heart and lungs, making his breath come out in little puffs of air. Meanwhile, Akutagawa looked nice and warm in his big black coat and Atsushi only felt colder looking at him.
"Tch. Pathetic," Akutagawa remarked, noticing this. Atsushi just ignored him, too cold to respond. He sighed, wrapping his arms around himself and looking away. No matter how much he wished he had a coat, he would have to freeze until they arrived at the Agency. Suddenly, arms wrapped around him and he was tugged backwards into Akutgawa's chest.
"Um...what are you-"
"Quiet. Don't say anything. You'll have to deal with this, whether you like it or not," Akutagawa said, squeezing him tighter, trying to ignore the fact that he had turned red as a tomato in front of Atsushi.
Atsushi awkwardly tried to squirm away at first, but Akutagawa sighed and squeezed him with all his strength, making Atsushi turn a cherry red.
God why is he so freaking cute...I want to kiss him...fuck it. Akutagawa thought in his head.
"T-thanks," Atsushi finally said, snuggling into Akutagawa's chest. He was no longer cold, and warmth was all he felt. Suddenly, he felt a hand lift up his chin and he felt a soft pair of lips press against his own. His eyes widened, and he stared into Akutagawa's dark gray eyes. Akutagawa looked right back at him and slowly closed his eyes, pressing closer to Atsushi. Atsushi's body tensed, and he slowly lifted a hand to pull away, but Akutagawa grabbed it and prevented him from moving. Atsushi felt his face heating up as his first kiss was stolen by the person who had once been his biggest rival. His heart was painfully beating against his chest, and he could hear the pounding in his ears.
Shit...what am I doing? Why am I so fucking stupid? Akutagawa thought to himself, embarrassed and worried about how Atsushi would react. He wanted to pull away, but Atsushi's lips were warm, and the kiss felt nice, so Akutagawa found himself unable to end it, instead indulging Atsushi. Unexpectedly, Atsushi began to kiss back, relaxing his shoulders. Softly, they shared the kiss, taking short breaths before pressing their lips together again. They even surprised themselves when they felt their fingers intertwining. Their sweet and innocent kiss lasted for about fifteen more seconds until Atsushi pulled away, blushing redder than Chuuya's hair.
"So um..." Atsushi started awkwardly.
"Yeah,"
"I uh..." Atsushi stammered, unable to get the words out of his mouth.
"Let's just get out of here," Akutagawa interrupted, coughing in an attempt to cover his flustered expression. They both stood up and then continued walking home. It was then that they noticed the cold had finally gone away. As they were walking, Akutagawa reached out and held Atsushi's hand. Atsushi blushed, but intertwined his fingers with Akutagawa's and they both looked away from each other, trying to conceal the large smiles that grew on their faces, enjoying the warmth and joy they brought each other.
