~Beyla's POV~

The doorbell rang loudly on Friday afternoon, as I was sweeping up the kitchen floors. Surprised, I blinked and peeked my head out of the kitchen as I heard Mr. Hemmings open it.

A breeze blew in through the open window behind me, blowing my dark hair into my face and making my white sundress billow around my thighs. I pushed my hair out of my face with a pout and watched as a large figure entered Luke's house. It wasn't until he turned around and our eyes met that I realized who was here, making me gasp softly.

Ashton's here.

Luke shut and locked the front door before he turned around, taking notice of me peeking out of the kitchen just as fast as Ashton did. He smiled affectionately at me and I swooned, blushing as I smiled back. "Come here, bambi." He chuckled, gesturing for me to come into the living room with the two of them. "No need to be shy." He added.

Ashton raised a brow at the nickname Luke called me and glanced at me, looking suspicious. I was a nervous wreck in front of the guy now and would've rathered stayed in the kitchen to sweep, but I nodded my head and forced myself to lean the broom against the wall before exiting the kitchen. Not surprisingly, Ashton's narrowed eyes zeroed in on me as I slipped past him, lingering around my chest for longer than needed. I hadn't known we were having him over today, or having anyone at all over today, actually.

"Ash, you remember Beyla." Luke grinned, comfortably slipping his arm around my waist and pulling me into his side. He nodded his head and, as I glanced up at him, I realized that he seemed to know full well that Luke's gestures towards me were far more than friendly. "Vividly." He responded, eyeing me.

I avoided eye contact and instead sought shelter in Luke's arms, my heart racing nervously. However much I tried to tell myself it wasn't worth being nervous over, it didn't matter. I knew Ashton probably had the complete wrong idea about me by now.

"So...You're fucking your maid." Ashton said bluntly all of the sudden, making me freeze. My eyes snapped up to Ashton instinctively, wondering if I had actually just heard him say that. He seemed so casual that I wasn't sure I had until Luke scoffed. "She's my girlfriend, you moron." He chuckled, squeezing my waist. I knew he wasn't showing it much, but Luke seemed to sense how I was feeling right then and I was beyond grateful that he knew me so well.

"Girlfriend?" Ashton echoed, evidently genuinely surprised. Honestly, I wasn't sure whether or not I should've been offended by that.

"Yeah." Luke shrugged, slipping his hand into mine. I bit my lip and smiled softly, unable to stop myself from nuzzling into his side. He made me feel so comfortable. "Uh..." Ashton frowned deeply and looked at Luke, cocking his head to the side. "Does Kira know?" He asked, making Luke raise a brow.

"Why would I need to tell her that? She broke up with me and it was more than mutual." Luke said, and Ashton rolled his eyes, as if he thought this whole thing was completely ridiculous. "Was it really, though?" He chuckled, raising a doubtful brow at Luke like he was supposed to find it funny as well. However, Luke didn't. At all.

"Yes." He said simply, staring at his friend with narrowed eyes. "What's up with you? You're being weird." He stated, his hand still in mine. Ashton just rolled his eyes and spared me a brief glance, eyeing me up. "I'm being weird? You're the one who let Kira walk away! Are you an idiot or something?" He scoffed, glaring at Luke by now.

I could feel the tension rising in the air, Luke's hand slipping out of mine as his hands formed fists. Evidently, he was getting just as pissed off as Ashton was. "The fuck are you even talking about, Ash?" He snapped, irritated. Both men were becoming angry and part of me wanted to leave, to just let them have their own conversation in private, but I simply couldn't. I just stood there and instead listened to them shoot back at one another angrily.

"I'm talking about how you're being an idiot! You and Kira have been together for so long, and now you're just letting her leave?" Ashton scowled, making Luke roll his eyes. "I don't love her anymore and I'm not going to be with someone I don't love just because I've been with them for a long time." He argued, crossing his arms over his chest. I peered up at him, my heart fluttering in my chest as I admired how much he had grown since I first moved in almost seven months ago. Maybe it was just my ego, but I wondered if maybe I had helped in that. I hoped so.

Ashton rolled his eyes and let out a humorless laugh, giving me a look as he gestured a hand at me. "I get she's hot and probably a good fuck, but you think you love her?" Ashton actually laughed as if that were a joke in itself, which hurt my feelings. "She's just a fucking maid. Is she really worth it?"

My eyes filled with tears and I crossed my arms over my chest as I looked down at the floor, realizing that I must've deserved this. Even if it wasn't my intention, Luke and I had still done bad. I'd still helped him cheat on Kira and I understood why Ashton didn't like me. Luke and Kira's breakup was partly my fault.

"Get the fuck out of my house, Ashton, before I do something I actually regret." Luke threatened, practically shaking with anger. He just grunted and stormed out of the house, slamming the door so hard it shook the walls.

"Bambi?" Luke asked gently, hesitantly. I just sniffled and avoided his gaze as he tilted my face up towards his, trying to keep my tears from slipping out. "Bambi..." He sighed softly, gathering me into a hug as his warm arms surrounded me. Wrapped in his embrace, I silently cried into his chest, probably getting my makeup on his shirt, but he didn't seem to mind. In fact, he just gently rubbed my back and murmured words of reassurance into my hair as he tried to get me to stop crying. And after a few minutes, I did.

When I pulled away, I saw I'd left mascara stains on the front of his shirt and sniffled. "Sorry about that." I mumbled, frowning. He just smiled softly and kissed me on the lips, humming. "It's fine, Beyla. Are you okay?" He asked, blue eyes searching my features worriedly.

"I'm okay." I mumbled, wiping my eyes gently. He sighed and hugged me once again, but I didn't mind. I felt better when he hugged me, more comforted. "I'm sorry. He's just being a dick." Luke grunted, but I shook my head. "No, he's right. Well, sort of." I muttered, sighing deeply. "I mean...It's not like we were great to Kira. Even if we never went further than kissing, it's still cheating. It was wrong." I whispered, guilt churning in my belly. Some part of me wished I had not ever kissed him before they broke up. There'd be nothing to feel guilty over.

"I know, bambi, but I can't change it now." He said softly, sitting down beside me on the couch. "I'm sorry." He murmured.

"I'm not the one you cheated on, dummy." I snorted, making his lips twitch up. "I'm not apologizing for that. I'm sorry for ever dragging you into a situation where you harbor guilt over it." He clarified.

"Luke, I'm a big girl. This is just as much my fault as yours." I said honestly, peering up at him. I knew he disagreed with me by the way he frowned, but he didn't press on it. "I love you." He said softly. I smiled and nodded my head. "I know." I said. "I love you too."

And I did know he loved me. I just didn't know why.
