Chapter 10: Lucas's point of view

I woke screaming. I felt someone squeeze my hand but I couldn't see who. I couldn't see anything.

"It's okay! Lucas, I'm right here." I heard a voice. It sounded like Stella's voice. "Stella?!" I wailed frantically. Black! Everywhere black! I screamed in frustration. No matter how many times I blinked, black! I thrashed around rapidly. "Someone help!" I yelled. I heard heavy footsteps thundering towards me. "What's going on." Someone with a deep voice asked. I didn't recognize it. "God damn it!" I screamed. Tears streaming down my cheeks."I can't see!" "Calm down." Stella's voice was steady. I wanted to obey her but still, I couldn't. I wanted to see her face. To know I hadn't caused her any harm. Another scream escaped my lips. "Black! Black! Black!!!!"

I remember Stella whispering something in my ear before the needle was injected into my neck. Then... Nothing.

I woke with a jolt, palms sweaty and my throat dry. I didn't know I was awake till I heard her soft voice tickling my ear. "Heyy!" She whispered. "Stella?" I asked quietly. "Yes.." Her voice shaky and strained as if she had been crying. "I'm right here Lucas." "I can't see!" I said starting to freak out again. "Ssshhh." Her voice more relaxed. "I know, do you remember anything?" "Yah. We were fighting and then I fell down the stairs... then everything went black. I could hear you gasp but then nothing." I frowned. "Well, when you fell down you hit the part of your brain that controls your eyes... Your blind." Her voice quiet on the words "your blind." A straggled cry escaped me. "I'm so sorry. The good news is that thirty percent of the people who suffer from this kind of brain damage recover and regain full sight. And twenty percent regain half their vision and the other fifty percent never get it back. But bright side, you have pretty good odds." " I don't need pretty good. I need certainty. Stella, what am I gonna do." "Your gonna live your life, in about two weeks though, because you are gonna be here for the next fifteen days." "Your right, I'm gonna get through this." Man was I over exaggerating.
