Chapter 12 Lucas's point of view:

I took a deep breath, real air. That old stuffy hospital air, does not have the right to call itself oxygen. I heard the whistle of the wind as it breezed by. I heard children laughing. I must be walking through the park. I wish I could see everything, then maybe it would seem more real.

As I walked up to the porch of Sue's house, she came rushing out. "Lucas, dear. I told you I would come get you from the hospital, how on earth did you get home all on your own?" Sue asked. I held up the long walking stick I had been given at the hospital. The whole day I practiced and by 2:00 I had it mastered. "They gave me this, don't worry I'm fine." I said red with embarrassment. "Oh my," she sighed. "Come in now, I fixed you a room. Are you hungry? I was just about to make lunch. How about soup... or sandwiches? Or soup with a sandwich? Which would you like?" "Sue... you can't rid the thought of Stella not being here by asking questions." I said blankly. I tried not to put to much emotion into my words, because if I used emotion then someone would be able to tell how I feel. And that would not be good.
