You ran your hand through your tentacles, adjusting your octopus print mask on your face. You had arrived. Inkopolis tower stood towering over your small frame. You noticed something off. The great zapfish that was on the tower in every picture you had seen, was gone. Your eyes widened. They actually did it again. You sighed, rubbing your neck. The screen on the tower lit up.
"Y'all know what time it is!" Said a female inkling with pink tentacles who sat on a beanbag.
You noticed an octoling you recognized standing behind a turntable. "It's off the hook, coming at you live from Inkopolis square." She said, her calm voice coming out the speakers.
It was the octoling Marina, who went missing three years ago. You had found her as a celebrity in Inkopolis. You went to look into the large window of the studio while still keeping an eye on the screen as they announced the ink battle stages. They ended the broadcast and went to a table off the set. You watched as they left for the tower.
You caught up to the girls. "Um, are- are you Marina Iida? The octoling that went missing three years ago?" You asked.
The octoling's green eyes scanned you. "Um, yes, actually. I'm assuming you're from the octarian caves, too?" She asked you.
You nodded. "Remember me? We went to the same school. We were really good friends until you went missing!" You said.
The pink inkling sighed. "Marina? Are you sure this isn't just a crazy fanboy?" She asked.
Marina nodded. "Yes, Pearl, I'm sure. This is definitely Y/n! I should have told you that I had left, I'm sorry, Y/n." She said, hugging you gently.
The people in the square all stared at you and the girls. People were whispering. You smiled, wrapping your arms around your best friend tightly. Your small hands rested on her shoulder blades. You pulled away, a huge smile on your face. Tears were in your eyes. "I missed you so, so much! I was so worried when you disappeared!" You said happily. A waterfall of words fell from your mouth, relaying all of your experiences over the past three years. Your body shook as you hugged Marina again. By this time, you three had returned to the studio after the first hug.
Marina smiled. "I never realized you would be so worried about me. I missed you too, but I didn't realize you would be so affected by my leaving. I would've brought you along if I knew." She told you.
You smiled, choking back a sob. Pearl grinned. "I'm glad you guys had a reunion. The city's great for reunions and meetings." She said happily, patting you on the back.
You smiled at Pearl. "Yeah, I've noticed that." You said, your mask now off to show your face.
Marina tapped your shoulder. "If you want, you can stay with Pearl and I. You only just got to the city, right? We could show you around!" Marina offered.
You grinned. "I'll take you up on that, let's get going. I'm starving." You said, digging through your backpack for a snack.
Marina stopped you. "If you're hungry, Crusty Sean's food truck is right around the corner. I even have free meal and drink tickets!"
"Oh, that sounds good!" You said with a smile.
Pearl laughed. She grabbed yours and Marina's hands and brought you outside to the food truck. "I'll order you some food, y/n, since you've clearly never eaten here before." Pearl told you. You thanked the shortie for the offer, and went to a table nearby. Marina followed you, since Pearl knew what she always ate there.
She sat down across from you at the table. "I thought we should properly catch up, since we haven't seen eachother since I left the caves." She told you, resting her hands on her cheeks and her elbows on the table. "What have you been doing these past few years?" She asked you.
You shrugged. "I've been trying to live with the rumours that you were... they said you were dead." You sobbed. Marina frowned, resting her hand on your shoulder, rubbing it calmingly.
"I couldn't tell anybody until I knew they thought I was gone for good. I'd have been stuck there my whole life." She told you, her green eyes filled with kindness. You rested your head on the table. You really were exhausted after getting to the big city.
~Pearl's pov~
I got the food from Crusty Sean, thanking him and going to the table I saw those two nerds bonding. I smiled at those two before plopping down at the table. "Hey, I got the food." I told them. Y/n raised his head and looked at me. His e/c eyes stared into mine. I gave a smile as I tossed him his deep fried hotdog thing. He looked at it, a strange look on his face. He looked confused. "Yeah, it looks weird, but I promise it's tasty." I told him.
He smiled at me, taking a bite of his food. He gave a huge grin. "You're definitely right on it looking weird but tasting great!" He giggled. I smiled at the octo dork.
I grinned at him. He returned it, continuing to wolf down the weird concoction.
~Marina's pov~
I watched Pearl speak with y/n. I'm glad those two are getting along. I hummed softly as I watched my two best friends chat and eat. I ate my food, plugging in my headset as I put on some music.
Y/n must've made one of his terrible puns, since Pearl, who has a similar sense of humour, was laughing extremely hard. I smiled at those two, sipping my drink.
~your pov~
I was telling Pearl about Marina as a kid, and all the crazy antics the two of us had gotten into as kids. By now, Pearl was giggling as if she had just been tickled to tears. "She never told you any of these stories?" I asked her.
She shook her head, still laughing. By this point, all of us had finished eating and Pearl and I were chatting, while Marina listened to her music.
I tapped Marina's shoulder. "Wanna go back? We're all done eating, and I need to get a place to stay..." Marina smiled at me.
"Remember? You're staying with us!" She laughed.
I went red. "Oh, yeah, I kinda forgot about that..." I chuckled. "Either way, I still gotta get unpacked." I said.
Pearl nodded. "Yeah, let's go back. It's about time to go on air, anyways." She said, grabbing my hand and walking with me to the studio. "We live upstairs. There's an extra room up there, so make yourself comfortable." She told me on the way there, flashing a grin at me, her sharp teeth showing off. I nodded, practically hopping up the stairs to my new place. The empty room had the door open, so I knew which one was mine right away. There was a bed, a desk, and other things you'd expect to find in a bedroom along with a TV set. I smiled to myself, putting my bags on the bed, and beginning to unpack them. I had a view over the square from my window, so I watched the broadcast when it came on before returning to putting things away. I ended up putting some music on while I worked, humming softly to the lyrics. It had been almost two hours before everything was put away, including my handheld system charging on the desk. I smiled at what was now my room as I noticed something from outside the window. There was a girl, dressed in a kimono and a traditional style brella. I wondered who it could be before she turned and looked at the building. It was one of the squid sisters. Marie. I was amazed that in the first day of being here, I had found my lost friend, and seen Marie of the squid sisters just hanging out in the square. This city was amazing. I sighed, flopping onto my bed, I needed a nap.
