Your pov
I hummed softly, placing the plates on the table. "Dinner's ready!" I shouted to Pearl and Marina, who were in their respective rooms.
"Coming!" Pearl shouted back. I smiled, sitting down and eating my food. Pearl came down the hall next with Marina following behind her. She plopped down next to me. "This looks good." She said to me, putting some of her meal into her mouth.
I had finished eating quickly, so I put my dishes in the dishwasher. I sat on the couch. "You almost done, Pearl?" I asked.
She grinned. "Yep! Just gonna deal with my dishes and grab my jacket." She said, putting her dishes with mine and rushing to her room for her jacket. She came out soon enough in a grey denim jacket. "Now I'm ready. Let's get going!" She said excitedly, grabbing my hand and taking me out of the apartment.
Marina smiled at the two of us. "Have fun, you two! Make sure you guys get home before midnight, though. You don't want to see cranky Pearl." She joked.
I smiled. "Will do!"
Pearl tugged on my hand. "Come on! Callie said she'd hang out with us!" She said, pulling on me.
"I'm coming!" I laughed.
~in the square~
The square was lit up and it felt like we were in another world. "Woah... There's nothing like this back in the caves." I breathed out.
Pearl grinned at me. "Yeah, it's pretty beautiful here at night. I come out here to relax all the time. The best part is, there's almost never anyone here at night unless it's a splatfest." She told me, her eyes brighter than I've seen in anybody else.
I then saw another inkling. One that I recognized from three years ago just before Marina went missing. It was Callie. One of the girls who sang the Inkantation that changed both mine and Marina's lives.
Pearl waved at her. "Callie! Over here!" She nearly shouted across the square.
Callie noticed us and ran over. "Hey, Pearl! I brought along my roller since you wanted to try out the classic Krak-on roller!" She said, gesturing to the roller slung over her back. "Blackbelly skatepark is empty right now. You can test it out there!" She said excitedly. "Let's go!" She grabbed Pearl's hand, dragging her, and effectively, me along to the skatepark.
I laughed as I stopped to catch my breath. "We could do a one versus one match between Pearl and me!" I offered once we reached the park.
Pearl put her hands on her hips. "Nah, I just wanna test this out. Maybe another day." She said.
I grinned. "Fine, but once you're ready, you're on." I said with a smirk.
Callie passed Pearl her roller. "Here! Just roll around til you're all charged up, then come back here!" She instructed Pearl.
She nodded, taking the roller into her small hands and taking off quickly. I smiled as I watched her run across the park and back. "All charged up! Here goes nothing!" She said excitedly, raising her hand and using the special. It just looked like she switched.
Callie giggled. "You don't have to switch to squid form to become a kracken!"
Pearl huffed, still in squid form. "This IS my kracken form! I'm just tiny!"
I grinned. "You're so small and cute! Even as a powerful kracken!" I giggled.
She returned to normal. "You guys suck. I may be short, but I could kick your butts in turf war."
"Nah, anyways. There's this nice music store a few blocks from here. They're open for a while yet." Callie offered.
Pearl smiled. "That sounds good. Just shut up about my being short." She added.
I grinned. "Yeah, sure."
Callie took both of her hands into mine and Pearl's hands. "Let's go! They have good books and stuff there too!"
"That sounds like a nice store." I mumbled, pulling my headphones off my ears and running ahead. "Is it this one?" I asked, pointing to a store with a set of headphones surrounding the name of the store.
Callie nodded. "That's it!"
Pearl grinned, entering the shop and moving straight to the cds. Her eyes were practically shining. I smiled as I wandered the corner with books, browsing for a good novel. Callie had disappeared to who knows where. I hummed the song I had heard so many people sing covers of as I made my choice of book and then went to the cds. I took a (favourite genre) album from the shelf and smiled. I went to the checkout and bought myself the items before entering the small cafe area. Callie turned around and saw me. "New book or a new cd?" She asked.
I held up my purchases. "Both. I had to leave all my books back in the caves." I mumbled.
She frowned. "That's really sad. I have some books you can have if you're interested. I've finished them all." She offered.
I grinned. "Of course! I could come visit you tomorrow, if you aren't busy."
She nodded. "I'm free around three in the afternoon. I'll see you then?"
I nodded, grinning wider.
Pearl's pov
I had bought my cds and gotten to the small cafe area and saw y/n and Callie chatting. I walked up to the two. "Hey, guys. Whatcha talking about?" I asked.
Y/n looked at me. "Oh! I'm going to Callie's tomorrow to get some books from her." He said happily.
I grinned. "You nerd." I said playfully. He just grinned.
"Wanna get some snacks? It's already almost eleven." Callie offered. Y/n and I nodded. "It'll be my treat, so what do you guys want?"
"Maybe just a piece of cake and a cola please." I said.
Y/n hummed. "A pice of cheesecake and a coffee, if it's not too much to ask."
Callie looked confused. "It's almost eleven at night, and you're gonna get coffee?" She asked him.
"Oh, yeah. I forgot about the time." He said sheepishly. "Then a hot chocolate instead of a coffee."
She grinned at him. "Will do!" And then she was off to the counter of the small cafe.
I rolled my eyes. "How do you forget the time?" I asked.
He shrugged. "I'm not super great at most things." He said sadly.
I frowned. "Don't say that! I may have only just met you, but I can already tell you're a smart person with a good heart. Don't talk down to yourself." I said sadly.
He smiled halfheartedly. "Thanks, Pearl. You're a good person." He said quietly.
I smiled at him, pulling him slowly into a hug. He relaxed at that. Callie then came back. "Hey, I have our snacks. What happened?"
Y/n pulled away. "I was just a bit upset, and Pearl was comforting me." He said.
She smiled at me. "Let's sit down and eat. We've only got about fifteen minutes til this place is closed." She told Y/n and me.
I grinned. "Yeah, I'm ready to have this cake." I said jokingly. Y/n gave a small smile as he took his cake. He went over to a small table in the corner and sat down.
~timeskip~
I stretched. "Well, it's about time we head back. The shop's closing soon anyways." I said sleepily.
Y/n nodded. "Yeah it is. I'll see you tomorrow Callie." He said, waving to Callie. She just grinned and turned in the direction of her home.
"Let's get going. I'm tired." Y/n said, walking back towards the apartment.
I nodded sleepily. I'm exhausted too.
