Chapter 13: "Hero"

[3rd Person POV]

Susie was sitting in her 4th-period class slowly nodding off as the teacher kept speaking. Ignoring the teacher's lecture, she looked over to Y/N who was sitting one desk away. He was diligently taking notes on whatever the teacher was saying, and Susie couldn't help but smile as she stared.

Mmmmm Henry's breaded chicken...

Susie thought to herself as she prepared for her afterschool plans with Y/N.

As an apology for giving so much of his attention to Mica lately, he was taking her to the most famous chicken place in all of San Diego. (not a real place btw, but I feel like the most famous has to be Raising Cane's. At least where I am.)

She ended up falling asleep dreaming about what the chicken might taste like.

[Small Time Skip]

Susie awoke to a cute blonde girl tapping her shoulder. She remembered her as the girl who was friends with Chad. The second thing she noticed was that Y/N wasn't in his seat anymore. Her heart rate picked up as she looked for Y/N, but to no avail.

Meghan: "Susie! Sorry to wake you, but we're going to this amaaazing burger place, you have to come!"

Can't these people take a hint?!

She thought as she mentally prepared herself to turn their lunch plans down again.

Susie: "Sorry, I already have plans with Y/N today."

She said bluntly and began to put her blank paper, and unused pencil into her binder.

I grabbed my phone and on it was a text from Y/N.

"I went to the bathroom. I'll meet you at the car."

Ugh, why does he always have to make my life harder?

She tries not to leave his side at school due to the memory of his bruises when they first met.

She tried to leave the classroom but was stopped by Meghan grabbing her arm.

Meghan: "Wait! Y-you go with Y/N every day, so you can take one day to go out with friends right?"

She was clearly nervous about something and Susie could see it. She ripped her arm out of her grasp.

Susie: "We're not friends."

Susie's words carried a venom that shook Meghan to the core. She took a few steps back out of instinct, and Susie ran off in the direction of the bathrooms.

Meghan: "Susie wait!

She yelled as she ran off after her.

[Slight time skip backward]

Y/N zipped his pants back up and made his way to the door trying to avoid eye contact with the group of kids vaping in the corner.

I wonder what was up with Freya last night? She was acting so weird. Eh, maybe I was just tired.

He was lost in his thought as he left the bathroom but was quickly yanked out by two hands grabbing his collar and pushing him against the wall. He quickly recognized him as Chad, and he had his two friends behind him.

Chad: "What's up Y/N? Been a while!"

He said before he delivered a mean right hook to Y/N's face knocking him to the ground.

Chad: "I'll make this simple so you can understand..."

He bent down in front of Y/N who was trying to get up.
