Kla's POV

Walking home from the construction zone, my mind kept wandering back to those dark green eyes. When he smiled, my goodness my stomach felt like it exploded with butterflies. Something was different about him, he seemed safe. This was a weird feeling for me to have.

Nathan talked the whole walk home, no even noticing that I was in my own thoughts. After a while I think he started to notice as his talking was becoming less and less until we were walking in comfortable silence back to the house.

When we get home it is about two in the afternoon. I am tired but I don't know if Nathan would get mad if I went to take a small nap. I know that Thomas would force me to stay awake for days if I ever tried to rest before making dinner, but things here are so different and I am still not sure what is considered normal parenting and what is abuse.

Jessie comes out of her office when the door squeaks shut. Her bright smile makes me feel happy and I smile back at her. "Perfect timing you too," she says, "I was just finishing work and was planning on cooking some brownies for when Luca and his friends come over tonight. Maybe you would like to help Kyla?"

I nod my head despite feeling so exhausted that my feet were dragging. Jessie gets out all of the baking ingredients we will need and slowly explains what to do for each one. After about a half hour of me struggling to follow her instructions, Jessie takes over and tells me to watch so next time I will know what to do. I felt a little disappointed in myself for no being able to help but I don't want to upset Jessie so I just sit and watch her as she quickly whisks together all of the needed ingredients and pouring it into the large pan.

Nathan went off to pick up Olivia from school and Jessie continued doing her own thing in the kitchen. I don't know what I should be doing so I sit at the kitchen table and watch Jessie cook until I am told to do something. Just sitting at a table watching feels so foreign to me and I feel uncomfortable not having a job to do after so many years of having to do everything.

Jessie tries to hold small talk with me but it is a bit awkward since everything she tried to bring up, like past schooling or homes, weren't topics I enjoyed talking about. We try to converse for about twenty minutes before the house becomes filled with loudness as everyone shuffles inside, including Luca and two other people.

Jessie walks over and hugs Tom and Rylie. Rylie tells some joke that I don't understand and Jessie laughs loudly. No one else understood so it must have been an insiders joke. Tom gives Jessie a small hugs, he looked like he could have crushed her if he wanted to. Luca talks animatedly about their job for today and how fun it was because the structure was complex. He seems to truly love what he does for a living, this makes me smile.

Olivia and Nathan walk in shortly after Luca and his friends. The sweet little girl runs up to me and wraps her arms around my leg. I smile and hug her tightly. She starts rambling about how her day went.

Luca laughs, "Livvy slow down. Klya lives here, you have all day to tell her about your day you don't need to say everything in a minute." We all laugh as her face goes bright red and hides her face behind my leg. I rub her back and whisper assuring words to her so she doesn't feel embarrassed.

She looks up at me with those adorable eyes, "Kyla? Can I show you the drawing I made today?"

"Of course you can sweetheart." She pulls me over to her bag and we sit on the couch. I wait patiently while she digs to find it. When she pulls it out I smile at the brightly colored piece of paper. There are five little stick figures in the drawing.

Olivia hands it to me, "It's our family."

She points out who is who and my smile gets larger when she points to me, Olivia and I are holding stick figure hands. "Oh and that," she points to a small ball looking creature, "That's Murry."

          "Who is Murry?" I ask.

Her face lights up, "That's the doggie I am asking Santa for Christmas!"

I giggle and pull her into a hug, looks like I am going to be finding her a puppy for Christmas.
