"I DON'T SEE WHY YOU GUYS WON'T TELL ME," Jacob blurted, staring intently at his parents.

The Barber's decided to take Jacob out for his birthday. This would be the first birthday Jacob spent without Margo since he was six.

"Because it's between us and Dr. Vogel." Laurie explained softly.

"What happened to me being treated like an adult?" Jacob seethed. "This is such bullshit! I'm seventeen."

"Hey, enough with the swearing," Andy scolded, crossing his arms. "It's like every other word with you."

Jacob sighed. "I have a right to know about my own brain. I- I took every one of her tests, I answered every one of her stupid questions."

"She thought you were a good kid, which we already knew. This whole thing is a formality, okay?" Andy responded.

Jacob rolled his eyes. "I don't believe you."

"Honey, it's your birthday, let's talk about something else." Laurie suggested.

Jacob looked straight at his mother, fear glossing over his eyes. "What about the murder gene?"
