An hour or so later, the sun began to set, letting orange rays of sunlight leak through the gaps in Chenle's blinds and reflect off your now golden skin. Chenle opened his eyes slowly, noticing that the pair of you hadn't moved at all from your original position. He looked out his window, seeing the falling sun and the pink and orange sky surrounding it.
Being careful not to wake you, he gently lifted you out of his arms and rested your head on a pillow before tiptoeing out of his bedroom. He shuffled around the downstairs closets, grabbing a few things and laying them out nicely on the grass in his backyard. He set out a small picnic rug, covered with more pillows and blankets and quickly snipped off some roses from one of the bushes bordering his house.
10 minutes later, he crept back into his bedroom, grabbing the little box hidden in his desk drawer and sliding it into his pocket. He walked back over to you, waking you up again with a soft kiss on your lips.
"Wake up," he whispered. "I have a surprise for you."
You opened your eyes gently to see Chenle smiling over you, sitting on the bed.
"A surprise? What kind of surprise?" You asked back, confused.
"You'll see!" He said excitedly, "Just come with me."
Chenle took your hand and led you downstairs through his back door where you were met with a little nook all set up on the ground, looking over the sunset complete with a little bouquet of pink roses sat down on one of the pillows.
"What's this?!" You asked with a smile, looking at Chenle.
Chenle giggled, still walking and bringing you up to the rug where he sat you down next to him and pulled out his laptop.
"This is what we're going to do tonight!" He said, opening the lid of his Macbook. "An outdoor cinema," he introduced with a smile. He handed over a pack of popcorn sat it in between you beside two cans of soft drink for the both of you. "Here are our snacks for now, and there should be pizza arriving soon."
Chenle logged into his laptop, pulling up a movie and sitting the screen in front of you. "Oh! I almost forgot!" He exclaimed, shuffling around under the pillows behind him. He pulled out a small container, filled with little heart-shaped cookies. "I made you these," he smiled proudly.
"You made them for me?" You said, with wide eyes and a matching wide grin. Chenle nodded giddily, opening up the container and picking one out for you.
"Ahh," he mimicked, holding it up to your mouth. You laughed and opened your mouth, taking a bite of the cookie as he fed it to you.
"So, what do you think?" Chenle asked with anticipation.
You widened your eyes and shook your head. "They're actually really good," you said with your mouth still full. "I didn't know you could bake, Zhong," you teased.
Chenle laughed again. "I'm glad you like them," he said, picking one up for himself to eat. He pressed play on his laptop and sat back, but had to get up again when he heard a ring at the door. "That'll be the pizza!" He said, standing up and brushing himself off while he walked to the front of the house.
He soon returned holding two large steaming boxes in both hands.
"Oh my god that smells amazing," you said, eyeing the pizza.
Chenle sat himself back next to you, opening up the box and letting you take a slice. You both sat together in silence, just enjoying the pizza and each other's company with no need for words. Chenle looked up at you, the sunlight sinking through his iris leaving them looking like a brown pool of honey around his pupils. His eyes sparkled in the light, as if they were a portal to a whole milky way.
"Hey," he began, breaking the silence. He lifted his finger up to point to his lips. "You've got something," he said, tapping. You shook your head, not going to let yourself fall for that game again.
"Oh, I don't think so," you teased. "I'm not that gullible, Lele."
Chenle chuckled. "No, really!" He screamed, eyebrows raised innocently. He put his pizza down on top of its box and raised his arm up towards you. "Here, let me get it for you." He brought his fingers towards your lips about to wipe them clean, but grabbed your cheek and pulled you into a kiss instead. You kissed back, letting him keep your lips company. He pulled away again shortly, sporting a wide grin.
"All gone!" He giggled.
You could only shake your head, wondering how you were able to find a boy as perfect as him.
The two of you watched the movie in each other's arms while the sky turned all shades of the rainbow around you. The ending credits began, and the two of you ended up lying down, staring up at the stars hung up in the dark blue sky. Chenle turned his head to you, taking your palm in his.
"[Y/n], I have one more thing for you," he says, reaching his other hand into his pocket. He pulled out a small box, opening it and presenting it to you. Inside sat two silver rings, one for you and one for him.
Your mouth dropped open at the sight of them. Even though it was dark, the rings sparkled in the moonlight. They looked stunning.
"Promise rings," Chenle said softly, taking one out and sliding it onto your finger.
"I want to be with you forever, [y/n]. So now, even if we're apart, I'll still be with you," he explained, fitting the other ring on his own finger. "And you can always be with me, too."
"Thank you, Lele," you said, pulling him into a big hug. "I'll never take it off," you said with a smile, playing with it on your finger. "I love you."
"I love you too, baby," he replied, clutching your jaw with his hand and pulling you in for another kiss.
Chenle held your palm tight, leaning you back down and letting your head rest against his chest, your body tangled up in his arms while you both gazed at the sky above you. In between your bodies held a sea of reassurance and love, a bucket of care that promised to stick around. You felt safe having him him there, and you knew he wasn't going to leave you like the others did. He left a promise of something more, a lifetime of comfort and joy to look forward to. Just as long as you let him, he'd give you everything.
