❛ the gods will not save us 𝙣𝙤𝙬 ❜

THE WORLD WAS utterly doomed. Amara could not hold back her tears for long after she began the trek with Lian at her side, the girl still clinging to her hand, frightened that she too would die with blood spilling out of her and her eyes full of death. She sobbed into her free hand, ignoring the heartbroken glances the little girl was throwing her way every few minutes when she heard a strange sound being torn from the older woman's throat. Everywhere they went, description either followed or had already arrived. She had told herself that perhaps other cities were still safe and that the innocent civilians were still alive.

The gods laughed at her from their golden thrones in the clouds, whispering to each other about how stupid she was to be so optimistic due a time when the world was crumbling.

Amara could find no strength within her to cover Lian's eyes as they walked through a deserted city, cars burning, windows of buildings shattered, and bloody, dead bodies all over the place. The glass crunched underneath their feet as they journeyed together, ignoring the devastation surrounding them. It was easy, even for a child. For they had both lost the people they loved and now nothing else seemed to matter. Suddenly, she felt lonely, that aching in her chest she felt when she was a kid, coming back at full force.

Titans Tower stood in the distance and before they even got close, Amara could already feel the death. There was no way any of them survived, not against the paradooms. The only person alive who could fight them was Superman. But everyone knew what became of their hero and the rest of the Justice League. Their heroes had fallen, every single one of them. In a matter of hours, death had become a constant, something that was normal now. And from the looks of how certain bodies laid as they passed by, some people called death to them, and death happily answered.
