Kevin was surely disgusted to what their professor proposed. He does knows how to solve, but does not want to. He is not that type of student where he knows it all. He adored Science though, and would want to become a doctor someday, a surgeon perhaps.
He knows that Mathematics is the language of Science, yet like everybody else, he does not want to speak that language. Not afraid, but more like he's just lazy to do so.
Doodling at his notebook as their professor lectures them about how to calculate angles using SOHCAHTOA, he resists having an interest in Mathematics. Doctors do not need mathematics, as of what he thought.
'Since we are at the topic of angles, and geometric figures, on how to use SOHCAHTOA, I would like to make your short quiz into a project. Would you all agree? The due date will be next week.' a sudden mumbling throughout their classroom buzzed as the opinions of his classmates were opened - some seemed to agree, while others were unsure.
'So what do you all prefer, a small project, or a short quiz today?' their professor asked the whole room for their intellectual suggestion. Even though it may be hard, they chose the project, since it was by partners.
'Okay then, I will be the one who will choose which would be partners.' He continued.
Their professor started pointing out people, saying their names, as they cheer, probably because they were very happy to whom they were partnered with.
'Kevin, you and Sarah will be partners for this project, please be a gentleman and be the one who'll initiate to sit with her.' his professor said, in a straight face.
He only thought that getting partnered with Sarah, his classmate that was so quiet he'd be awkward to sit beside with, was quite nerve cracking for him.
Kevin does not know what Sarah wants, what she likes to talk about. She felt distant to Kevin since they seldomly talk to each other. But Kevin knew that Sarah's favorite food at their canteen was ramen. Weird, he thought, but he once bumped at Sarah, and gave her ramen as compensation for somehow disrespecting her.
'So, would you want some ramen later? Talk about what we will do for this project?' he said in an inviting voice, it's the only thing that he can open up to in order for them to feel comfortable at each other.
'Okay, I guess.' she replied shyly.
'Do not worry; it would be my treat again. Sorry for bumping you that day, I was so careless.'
'You do not need to cover my ramen, and thank you for that kind gesture of yours.' Sarah said, again, shyly.
Kevin did what he could do just to prevent their conversation become dull - he does not want to create an awkward aura around their surrounding since it was their first time having closure in one another. Sarah seemed that she also does not want to make their semi-bonding so awkward that it would make Kevin not talk to her anymore.
'Take your sits class, now let me explain the details of your project. Your project is video making, for children. You know those kinds of kids' show that teaches children to learn mathematics. Now I want you to create one, as partners, to see how you would appeal to younger audiences. You can freely choose a format. For your information, I have a lot of nephews and nieces, and they will be the judge of your presentation, make sure that your topics are not the same. That is all. I will dismiss you all early so that you can plan out things. Class dismissed.'
Sarah's faced blushed, pink bright red. She was like a ripe tomato that is ready to be harvested - she would like Kevin to be his farmer. She deliberately cover her face with her hair, she does not want Kevin to her beetroot colored face.
'Our next professor will be here in mere seconds, I might want to get to my seat though. Talk to you later.' Kevin stood up and got on to his seat, again, alone and quiet.
Sarah thought she might have had made Kevin awkward that drove him away - she thought that her smell was quite different, or Kevin does not like how she smell. She blushed again, but now from the awkwardness by her thoughts that her physical apperance might have been the reason why Kevin left. It is her hair? Does it smell? Is it her face? Did some pimple grow out of nowhere unnoticed by her? She's delusional by that thought, she was like having a seizure - she's star strucked again perhaps.
Too shallow she thought, maybe all is well and Kevin just wanted to go and prepare himself for their next subject. Well at least this time, it was their literature subject, her favorite.
Their literature teacher came and greeted them, casually. Their professor handed out their literature portfolio filled with their handwritten activities that were mostly poems and short stories; hers followed the "romantic and tragedy" genre.
Sarah's work was often acknowledge by their professor in literature - she often get comments like 'Why shouldn't you compose/write your own book and probably share it to us once your finished' kind of compliments. She was known to be poetic, and her themes were just timely - love, revolution, desires, and much more.
She wanted to right a book, after all, she dreams to be a great and well-known author. Sarah would also want to become the J.K Rowling of the Romance section of their national library. Publishing millions of copies of her authorized works and having fans that look up to her; inspired by her works and would build a name of their own in literature.
Her most notable and greatly loved poem, entiled "The eyes that loved you", relates to most of the teenage girls in her campus, was about Kevin. Others loved it, but they do not know who was pertained by the poem. Sarah was lucky no one had deciphered it; she'll be ashamed if others would figure it out.
'So class, I am here to announce that Ms. Sarah will be our class' representative for this year's poetry competition. She does not need to compose another piece; she is free to choose which of her outstanding poems she will present. What do you think?' Ms. Mendez, their literature teacher, looks at her as if she had won the lottery.
'Sarah, I suggest you present "The eyes that loved you" to everybody in this campus, you will be loved as a great poet, I promise.' Rhea, her seatmate, suggested to Sarah.
Sarah agreed to take both the competition, and to present her poem.
'That is settled, but for the first time, we would like to hear your own poetry from the author itself, do you mind Sarah?' an invitation from their teacher echoed throughout their populated classroom. The sweet scent of encouragement she thought, but at least, no one knew who she was pertaining in the poem, that is why she is okay presenting it to everybody else.
Sarah stood up, got her notebook that had her poem written in, walked in front, and stated it line by line. It goes:"These eyes loved you,
from your hairlines
to the sole of your shoe.
These eyes adored you,
what they saw was pure,
what they saw was true. You must have been blinded,
you never knew,
These eyes were thouroughly gazing at you.I may never know your full story
nor you seeing me
a stalker what other's may say
but I'll love you all day.Unsure to what to do
and not comfident to say
when time comes, gathered my courage,
please make me stay.I hope you open yours too,
and see me, loving you."Her poem touched those who were desperate to tell their crushes what they feel, yet does not have the courage to speak up to them. It may seem shallow, but it sure did had a deep meaning to everybody else - having someone that they look up to and appreciate their works was basically the sole meaning of her poem.
Everybody seemed touched, especially boys, at her poem. Sarah scanned their classroom to see their reaction - her teacher was glad, her classmates appreciated the poem, some deliberately took it emotionally as if they were the ones saying the poem, and there was Kevin, somewhat ammused to what he heard. Sarah did had a nice voice, Kevin just seldomly hear it.
'Sarah, I would like to ask you a question.' said Penny, raising her arm in the air, wanting to get attention and permission for her to speak in class.
'If you were the lady pertained in your poetry, then who is the guy you're looking at?' Penny continued. Her classmates also became curious, who was she talking about?
'I - uh, I'm sorry, I cannot answer your question.' covering her red face with her notebook and running towards her desk and chair, ashamed from what Penny asked her.
Kevin saw the whole scenario, and was also curious. He thinks it will be a great topic to talk about - thinking that it is finally gaining a step closer to Sarah.
Ashamed, Sarah kept her head close to her desk all throughout their literature class. She began overthinking, what if Penny knew who was the guy in her poem and would want her to say Kevin's name in her whole class. She cannot handle that much of a pressure; luckily, she was not pressure by her classmates.
Their literature teacher saw how happy Sarah were when she was looking at her classmates' reaction, and how she turned red when Penny asked her a question. She knew that Sarah was shy and all, and her poetries and proses were highly inspired by someone who did great things to her, but she cannot dechiper who Sarah was talking about in most of her literary works.
One thing is for sure, as for Ms. Mendez, Sarah will be a great author someday. She often tease Sarah that she should get a VIP pass when she will be opening a book signing event, especially when it is in the city, or near.
Ms. Mendez has quite a sensitive and critical taste for literature, but she still adored how Sarah managed to touch her heart by simply putting her emotions into it - a qualified, and possible great poet she may say.
Before she left the class, Ms. Mendez came to Sarah's table to talk.
'Hey Sarah, I love your work, so do not be ashamed of it all right? Keep on writing, I believe in you.' she said to Sarah, encouraging the girl to make more poems.
'See me after class okay.' Ms. Mendez continued, and walked away from where Sarah was sitting.
Sarah, on the other hand, felt like as if she was blessed by the gods of literature. She knew that Ms. Mendez is a critic, but she never knew that her favorite subject, with her favorite teacher, would be very acknowledgable to an ameteur writer.
'Class dismissed, have your break time.' Ms. Mendez said as she walks out their door.
Her classmate stood up one-by-one as she remained sitting at her desk, writing a manuscript for her next poetry.
'Hey, Sarah, care to join me to buy food at the canteen?' Kevin said out of nowhere, probably scaring Sarah.
'Sure, just gonna pack up a bit here.' surprisingly, having no voice cracks out of nervousness.
Sarah packed her notebook and some pen inside her bag, stood up, and joined Kevin.
She placed her arms in her back, pinched her elbows as hard as she can, checking if all of this was a dream. Lucky for her, it was not.
