꧁Chapter Nine꧂

it only took the group plus kaden a half hour to get to his house. they pulled into a small driveway. the house was small and white. carmen rolled down her window as kaden got out of his van. "i'll be waiting here!" she shouted out to him.

kaden nodded and went inside his house "god i hope he brings a phone charger" dante said looking at his phone. "mines on 10 percent" he added.

"i still can't believe nobody brought one, especially you nova! out of all people" carmen said looking back at her and smiling.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
nova chuckled "sorrrrry" she said sarcastically. scott looked at the time on the car.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"is it actually 8pm right now?" scott asked sounding a little shocked "or is the time on this hippy van screwed up?"
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"stopppp let me live" carmen said "and yes the time is right, i'm gonna pull over at a campsite. it's a few miles from here i brought camp stuff. which reminds me. i only brought enough for us, i should tell kaden when he comes out to get some stuff" carmen added.

"camping?" nova said "ew"

"shhhhhhhhh child" scott said "it'll be nice"
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
everyone went silent "what-" dante said "since when do you like camping, and why do you keep shushin people" he added. scott just shrugged.

a few moments later kaden came out of his house with a small suitcase and a long coat on.
"wait! do you have camping gear??" carmen yelled out the window at him. kaden dropped his stuff and ran inside.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"i guess that's a yes?" dante said looking at him run. he comes back out with a tent and a sleeping back. along with a pillow and a large blanket.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"i should help him" scott said hopping out of the van and running to pick up his suitcase and tent. "i'll take this for you" he said

"oh, thanks" kaden said smiling and walking over to the van. they loaded his stuff into the back piled on top of everything. they boarded the van, kaden got in the middle between nova and scott.

"you got a phone charger?" nova asked kaden. he shook his head. they all groaned.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
carmen started driving. "it's getting dark so we are gonna lay camp for tonight if that's okay with you." she asked kaden.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"of course i don't mind, but may i ask how long will this road trip be?" kaden said looking ahead at the road.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"however long it takes for us to get to the canadian boarder, then we're turning around." carmen said smiling. kaden nods.

they drive on the road looking for a camping site to lay their tents in so that they could rest for the night. dante spots a sign up ahead with a tent on it.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"tent?" dante said pointing to it.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"good boy, knows his pictures" scott said laughing.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"shut the fuck up asshole" dante snapped at him. carmen shook her head
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"stop fighting, that's a camp sign, we are soon there" carmen said driving slow to see if she can find the turn off to pull into the camp site.
she stopped the van and looked at dante. "you'll need to help me put up tents, because i don't know how" she said to dante smiling.

"i'll help too!" kaden said looking at them both. carmen nodded. they all piled out of the van and went to the back to take out the tents. they had to put a few belongings on the ground to get to the tents but finally they got them.

"there is now two tents so we need to figure out who's sharing.." nova said looking at the tents on the ground.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"let's put them up first before it gets to dark" scott said as they all nodded in agreement, carmen and dante set one tent while nova, scott and kaden set up the other. there was now 5 sleeping bags all together.

"so who's sharing?" carmen said looking at them all, they all stood in a circle and looked at each other.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"i'll share with kaden" nova spoke up and looked at him "if you don't mind.." she said.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
kaden shrugged "yeah that's fine with me, i don't care who i'm sharing with so it could be any one of you"
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"okay then i'll go with you too" scott said quickly. dante looked at scott and raised an eyebrow.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"so just...me and carmen?" dante said slowly. carmen looked at him and smiled. "thats..fine with me" he added looking at scott. scott gave him a wink then started loading the sleeping bags into the tent. kaden brought his big pillow into the tent.

the van was parked close to them so they could get to it easily and still keep an eye on it. there were tall trees surrounding the small circle on the ground that they were on. there was a small picnic table and a fire pit by the edge of the circle. the sky was now spotted with stars. the air was crisp with a soft blow of wind.

"anyone wanna start a fire?" kaden said crawling out of the tent after finishing setting it up. carmen was already by the fire pit trying to light it. "oh- lemme help" kaden said jogging a bit to get to carmen. he stood around it and tried to block out the wind so that the fire would start.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
carmen had a few logs and dry moss there for a fire starter. she took dantes lighter and tried starting it. soon after a few minutes it started to light up slowly. nova went close to them and cheered when the orange flames rose up from the ground.

"yay!" she said sitting down on a log close to the fire. kaden sat down next to her and warmed up his hands. carmen put the lighter back in her pocket and sat down on a separate log.

scott and dante came out from the tents after fixing it all up. scott went over to dante and smiled "you sharing a tent~" scott said teasingly

"shut up ugly" dante said chuckling "we're just sleeping in it, nothing special." he added.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"yeah well i get nova and the new guy" scott said smiling.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"i....what-" dante said "what do you mean by that" dante stopped and looked at him.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"oh- uh nothing" scott said smiling and running towards the campfire. dante looked at the tents then at scott again and followed him.

scott sat on a log next to dante as carmen sat alone on her log and watched as the flames rose and fell. every now and again she would throw in moss and a few twigs to keep the fire going.

dante glanced over at carmen sitting alone. he looked at scott next to him then got up slowly. scott looked up at him and smiled as he watched him go over and sit down next to carmen.

"hey homie" dante said smiling and sitting down next to her. carmen giggles and looked up at him.

"hi chicken little" she said randomly.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"chicken little- bitch wha-" dante said looking at her confused but still laughing. carmen laughed and shrugged then looked at the fire.

kaden looked at them all "hey..uh, thanks for taking me along guys" he spoke up suddenly. "i don't really have friends around here.." he added.

nova put an arm around him "no problem buddy, you'll always have friends when you're with us. we're all like family." she said smiling at him. kaden nodded and stood up slowly.

"i'm kinda tired..do you mind if i go to sleep?" kaden said looking at them all.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"not at all" carmen said smiling "goodnight" she added as kaden smiled and nodded. he walked back to the tent and snuggled up in his sleeping bag.

"now that i realize, i passed my bedtime" scott said getting up as well. he looked over at nova and winked and then moved his head towards the tent telling her to follow him.

"ohh, yeah me too" nova said getting up and giggling.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"oh, okay then goodnight guys" dante said watching them leave.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"night!" scott said turning to look at him and raise his eyebrows. he then turned around and made it look like he was kissing someone.

"oh you-" dante started, he picked up a rock and threw it at him before carmen could turn around and see. he rushed into the tent as nova followed.

dante turned back around and watched carmen as she threw another chunk of moss into the fire. she looked back at him.

"what?" she said smiling while sitting back down next to him.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"oh- nothing" dante replied smiling and looking up at the sky. he kept looking at her while she was staring at the fire. he slowly slid his hand into hers and stood up. "come here" he said softly.

carmen blushed and slowly stood up with him "o-oh okay.." she said smiling a bit. dante walked a bit into the open field of the circle where their tents were set up and sat down on the grass. he let go of carmens hand and patted the ground next to him.

carmen sat down and slowly in the dewy grass and looked ahead of them at the van. she then looked next to her as dante laid down slowly. she followed his actions and laid next to him. her hands resting on her stomach while dantes were behind his head. they stared up at the sky. the stars shone brightly over the field. the full moon above it all. dante let out a loud sigh and turned his head to look at carmen.

"beautiful isn't it?" he said while carmen still stared at the sky. she turned her head slowly to realize he was looking at her.

"o-oh yes, definitely" she stuttered. her palms started to sweat slightly as she stared into his eyes.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"ya know, your eyes look a lot like the stars up there" dante said slowly propping himself up on his side using his arm to keep his head up.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
carmen looked up at him as he towered over her. "thanks.." she said quietly. "yours too" she added awkwardly and giggling at herself.

he smiled and licked his lips slowly. "thank you cammie" he said chuckling.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"what did i say about you calling me that?" she said smiling. dante has always called her cammie since they were kids.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"whatever" dante said smirking and looking at her. "i'll do whatever i want" he added.

carmen tried to swallow the lump of in her throat from nervousness "y-yeah." she chuckled a little.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
they have been friends for so long, since pre-k. nothing could beat their friendship. nobody cared about each other more then they did.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
for a while they just laid there staring at each other. the stars above twinkling. carmen sat up slowly and dante looked at her.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"what's wrong?" he asked sitting up with her.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"nothing, just a little bit cold" she said smiling "the ground isn't helping" she giggled. dante immediately took off his hoodie and handed it to her.

"here" he said as she took it slowly.

"thanks, are you sure though, won't you be cold?" she said looking at his white t-shirt.
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎
"yeah i'll be fine don't worry" he said watching her slip in on, "wow, you look better wearing it then me" he said chuckling.

"oh- uh thanks" carmen smiled and blushed. dante flopped back onto the ground again. carmen laid next to him and slowly scooted closer. she rested her head on his chest and wrapped her arm around him.

dante looked down at her and she looked up at him. his eyes wandered to her lips. he looked back at her eyes and licked his lips. they both sat up quickly and both collided their lips to each other. dante's hands made their way to her hips slowly as carmen rested her arms over his shoulders. dante kept her close to him while kissing her gently, carmens face was a bright red. soon they pulled away and looked at each other with wide eyes.

"i-" carmen said but before she could say anything dante kissed her again. this time with a little more force but not much. she slowly laid down on the grass as dante hovered over her. she ran her fingers through his hair slowly.
dante pulled away again.

"i'm sorry i'm sorry, fuck" he got up quickly "i-i'm just going- i'm, i'm gonna go to sleep" he held out his hand to help her up off the grass before going to the tent. carmen watched him walk off to the tent shocked. this time she was left standing alone.

they both knew in that moment that they weren't friends anymore.
